Isles don't have long term cap to sign Hall. So Hall forgos his UFA opportunity to sign this unspecified contract.

Isles were supposedly in on Panarin so they'll certainly make the cap space available for Hall if he's available. They can always trade Nelson or Bailey. I guess it also depends on how expensive Barzal is next summer.

Actually your theory and practicality is correct. If a team can sign an UFA which puts them over the cap, they are then forced to trade a fairly valued player (let's say Bailey) for future.s That's a fair trade off.
Of course the the issue is whether a team is prepared to "overpay" for that UFA.
If the trend is to start paying RFAs UFA money, are there going to be as many suitors for Hall as he would have got five years ago?

Believe me, as a Devils fan I'm not even entirely convinced extending Hall for 8 years w/ an AAV of $12M+ is a good idea. You know they're gonna have to overpay him to keep him. He's injury prone and he's only surpassed 70 points twice in 9 seasons. I think Hall has a much higher injury risk than a typical RFA, and Hall probably isn't gonna get any better or more productive from where he was 2 years ago. Speed is such an integral component of his game, and he looks a half stride slower this season so far.

Here's a Question: Will Hall get booed when he returns to the rock?

I guess it depends on who he's playing for. But, I think he will be cheered at first (during a video tribute) and then booed every time he touches the puck thereafter haha. Jersey fans, like Isles and Rangers fans, have always been unforgiving. Perhaps not as tough as Flyers fans (they actually booed Wayne Simmonds), but pretty tough.

If he gets traded, don't know if he gets booed. If he leaves in FA, then he gets ran out of the arena lol

Haha. Fair point. And I don't see him getting traded to a division team anyway.
