Sounds like the right comparable and price. TDL is 4 months away and Newhook's value is variable over that time, but rn I'd say Newhook + 1st is about equal to Brannstrom + 2nd. If NJD thinks Kamenev is a player, maybe they take this deal. Would COL be able to afford Hall long-term though? Probably looking at like 10 mil right?

Depends on what an extension looks like, 9.5 for hall is reasonable, and same as stone, even though i think stone is better at this point. But if he is wanting panarin money or more i don't know if it is worth it.

Hall with MacKinnon would be insane. 2018 Hart winner + runner-up would do well in the season and the playoffs. But I don't want to give that much up to rent Hall and I don't think I want to sign him long term either. He'd want 7-8 years taking up double digits in cap space. I don't feel like that bodes well for Mack, Landy, Makar re-signings. I also just don't want Colorado giving up big time futures like Newhook and a 1st rounder quite yet. Even though the prospect pool is looking good, maybe one more year of seeing how this team plays out and building prospects before we start trading in win-now mode. The only TDL things I'd want to see would be depth pickups for cheap. This year, let the top line and that middle 6 core grind it out, same goes for the Avs D, even among injuries. Maybe a possible backup goalie pickup to bolster the tandem with Grubi? But even then, I'd be curious to see how Franky plays out if he has to play more.

EDIT: Just noticed "Hall signs an extension with COL" I just read the one side.

can easily afford him at 10

COL has tons of cap space already + the increase in salary cap for next year + $2.75M from Barrie's salary retention coming off the books + $1.5M from Orpik's buyout coming off the books

I think a 6 year term with AAV around 10.5M would be pretty fair. Long term but not into mid-late 30's while still getting lots of money. The market is kinda weird for superstar forwards right now with Stone and Kuch recently signing for 9.5M while players like Panarin, Matthews get over 11.5M

If that extension did happen I don't think I'd be disappointed but definitely apprehensive. But comethe year MacKinnon re-signs, what will our cap situation look like with Rants at 9.2, Landy at probably... 8? 8.5? Cale at 7? Mack at 12-13? I am pretty sure Johnson's cap hit will just go to MacKinnon. I am still not the most convinced a Hall trade and signing is the best idea. It is a weird market though and Hall would likely ask for Panarin/Matthews money.

I think you're right - I just did an armchair for next year and there's a sneaky large amount of money coming off the books incrementally. Signing Hall would be, to some extent, like TOR and Tavares. They could keep the gang together for the long-term but it would get a little trickier, depending on how the cap projects. Biggest diff between TOR and COL though, Mack already signed on that cheap deal.

As a Blues fan, my advice is to stay far away from Hall or any other star player heh.

that is still 4 years down the line and I dont think it would be much of an issue with how much the cap should be raising. It works out at least until 21-22 (At least in the AGMs that I have messed around with) and after that we could make moves as necessary to get more cap space if needed.

That's true and the Avs will win the 2021 cup anyways so Hall should just come for the ride.

As an Avs fan, my advice is to stop somehow obtaining our heroic centres, either via UFA or Buffalo. Watching O'Reilly lift the Conn Smythe was so painfully bittersweet. At least Stastny is a common enemy in Vegas now. Thank you for not signing Duchene though. I mean he did end up making it back into our division but still.

I was so hyped back when we signed Stastny and he never really put it together here in STL. Then we got ROR and I realized that he is what we thought Stastny would be. Heck of a player.

Acquiring our best two centers in trades is definitely a rarity, not sure if any other current team has done that, but I'm glad it has worked out.

does MTL count with Domi and Danault? but definitely not to the same extent as STL
