based off the fact there is speculation he won't play over here and will go play overseas.

An old declining Weber for 2 firsts (Podkolzin was a first round pick that fell to 10th because he has a 2 year contract with a KHL team meaning he won't be here for another 2 years at least) and Erickson.

One can only assume you are dumping Weber over fears he's declining and has 6 more years of contract at over 8 million a year. So with that in mind, why on earth would anyone pay anything to get him? Let alone the massive windfall you are proposing here. I am amazed Canuck fans aren't going crazy on this post.

I also look at the Canucks defensive core and only Hughes is top 4. Weber's contract is truly not that bad, he is still a great player and would become Van best Dman overnight. The guy is a Chara type of player - his game is not build on speed, therefore age won't be that much of a factor. He's at 7.6 with a 3M salary for the next two before dropping to 1M. If he retires early, the Preds will feel the effects.

At the same time they get rid of Eriksson (which is dead cap space) they trade a guy who hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet (albeit he does have potential) and a futur prospect which is also compensated by a second round pick this year.

The Canucks get significantly better without loosing much.

They why are the Habs wanting to move him? This is the common argument on here. "I don't like this player anymore and his contract is obviously going to be a problem, I'll now talk him up like he'd be the best player on whatever team I am trading him too and then ask for a huge windfall because once upon a time he was an allstar." That's about as transparent an argument as you can give.

If Weber is still a top pair defenceman, why would you trade him? Especially when the Habs are supposed to be a playoff team this year? The answer to that question is pretty obvious. You don't like how he's playing and hope you can drop his anchor of a contract on someone else.

Its the same thing everyone on here tries to do when they try to trade older players with term. Essentially the same thing happens when people on here try to trade for younger players who have an off year. Like people trying to get Drouin for a 2nd and spare parts. They'll say something like "He's been nothing for years, he's washed up and is only a 50 point player nothing more. Can you please, please trade him to me for a 2nd round pick and this prospect that will never make it?".

If you want to trade someone, there is always a reason and in this case, anyone wanting to trade Weber is doing so because he's declining and costs almost 8 million dollars for 6 more years.

No, it's mostly about resetting the team leaving more place for rookies.

A fancy way to say, his contract isn't going to be worth keeping around. Come on man, you can spin it anyway you want but that is why you want to move him. If you had any faith that he'd be worth his cap hit for his whole contract like you mentioned, you wouldn't want to move him because you don't have anyone that can reasonably do what he currently does for the Habs. So if you are honest with yourself, you know this return is just pure insanity.
