While I think Murphy is good and would fit in Winnipeg, I don’t think we’d be willing to give up this years 1st for him. 2nd + a prospect would probably work better. Don’t know what Chicago would want though.

WPG is a playoff team so it would be a late 1st anyway. WPG is also desperate for defense.

I'd do that trade, but make it a conditional 2021 1st/2nd. Lottery protected for 1 year and conditional on Murphy having a healthy season.

While I don’t know if I’m completely on board with trading him yet, I have to say I love the trade. It plays into Winnipeg’s needs and it gives us another pick to hopefully improve in the future. Kudos dude! Well thought out.

You contradict yourself when you say a player is too injury prone and then trade him for a 1st

Not exactly. Murphy may be slightly injury prone, but the 1st round pick plays more into Winnipeg’s needs as opposed to any injuries.

I think that trade is fair value, but we ultimately lose with Murphy being in the division and the first being a late rounder not likely to make an impact for the next 3 years at least. They also get perlini? Yeah I think WPG takes this in a heart beat.

I love Murphy’s game. He had the arduous task of replacing Hjalmarsson. Impossible. He has done everything the Hawks have asked of him. He clearly help makes the back end better. I love this guy, but I don’t think he warrants a 1st.

I be hard press to think the Hawks and the Jets could make a deal involving Murphy being in the same division. It one of those boundaries which GM’s rarely test.

In viewing the Hawks trades with teams in their division, it has been adding depth at the deadline, swapping draft picks, or dumping salary (Patrick Sharp to Dallas comes to mind). Chicago hasn’t moves a quality player to a division rival.

If this deal was to happen, I suspect a third team would be involved. However if the Hawks look as though they would missed the playoffs and the Jets were acquiring depth, then I could see a trade. Also if a first was offered for Murphy, then it would be stupid not to move him.

Sad truth is that this trade basically sends multiple messages. Winnipeg, assuming they’re still a playoff team come the TDL, are gonna need a dependable right handed. Ergo, that warrants a 1st round pick being spent, especially when you consider the vagueness of their window. It seems to change monthly.

Then, from the hawks perspective, your basically admitting you can’t compete this year or next year really. I know Mitchell and boqvist should be ready for next year, but it will be an easing in process. Also, I’m still definitely not sold on this year’s team. Obviously I still don’t think dach is anywhere 1C potential. Key word there is “potential.” Yes, the team has clearly gotten tougher, but now we need fast skaters and game breakers. Dach isn’t that.

Point is, this trade is great as long as it’s a made with the acknowledgement that we do need a little more time to rebuild. Sorry bowman, but yes, “rebuild.” It’s a great return and gives us more potential for the future. I’ve always said I don’t care about being bad as long as it’s done for the better of the future. This offseason definitely made me question it, and drafting dach only made it worse. But we will see what the future holds.
