This would put LA over the max contract limit and therefore not be a legal trade.

Also, that's a giant sack of garbage. Why would the Kings do that? The Kings would consider trading away Kovalchuk, but only to get his cap hit off the books quicker. This trade not only sends an additional $3M in cap hit to the Kings, but extends it for an extra year as well. In exchange for a bust prospect and one that was never very good to begin with?

Additionally, rebuilding teams don't defer their immediate draft picks for picks in later drafts.

Not to mention that Kovalchuk is not waiving his NMC to go to Vancouver.

This ACGM is all kinds of fail.

So 3 AHLers that LA doesnt care about could be added to fit the right number of contracts. Kings aren't going to be competing any time soon anyway and they have a ton of cap space so there's no reason for them to care about what you're suggesting. A 2nd round pick is definetly not garbage and there's two of them so that alone proves your garbage statement wrong.

They're not in the business of arbitrarily helping out division rivals for free. Change the picks coming to LA to a 2020 2nd and 2020 3rd and those are of value to LA. Draft picks 2 and 3 seasons out do not help the rebuild. Then remove Roussel from the trade and the Kings might be interested. Keep your AHLers too.

So it would look like this:

To LA:
Eriksson
2020 2nd
2020 3rd

To Van:
Kovalchuk
2020 4th (Calgary's pick)
2020 6th

Kings might actually go for that. Kovalchuk still won't waive for Vancouver though, so it's pretty much moot.

That's better? But im giving more assets and 2nd is still better than a 3rd?

They may be assets in one person's view but not fit in the others. Kings are more interested in picks than players right now.

A 2020 2nd and 3rd is better than two seconds from 2021 and 2022. The Kings are rebuilding and need the prospects now, not 2-3 years from now.

Since the Kings wouldn't be taking Roussel's contract, they'd be entitled to less assets in return. Unless you actually want to provide a decent prospect or two instead of the scrubs you included, the Kings would just pass on the AHLers.
