Pittsburgh gets a pick and doesn't retain salary? Easily a win for Pittsburgh.

This is impressive, but it would be more impressive if he hadn't traded for him in the first place.

Actually liked Guddy but cap space is cap space I guess. Rutherford needs to snap out of his old Carolina mode

everyone said it would cost an arm and a leg to move him and Jack Johnson.
Most people who had a clue knew it wouldn't.

They got back a small return on him. It's not bad. I'm not thrilled with this trade to be honest with you. But I understand why they did it.
They want Marino to get playing time. Letang and Schultz aren't going to sit. So Gudbranson was the odd man out as he couldn't play on the LD side.

Still then need a big body player who is willing to drop gloves and they don't have that now.
There is only one real space on the roster for that type of player and it's on the LD now.

So they are left now with one question on defense.
Who are they trading Johnson for that can be that player. Because that is clearly the next move that needs to be made.
They have forwards to add as sweeteners as they simply have too many guys who are capable of playing at the NHL level.

The fact Gudbranson gets traded twice within a year is proof any contract in the NHL is tradeable

I'm surprised PIT got someone to bite, but good for them. This should lead to even more trade IMO.

Gudbranson kind of got short changed in Pit. He was always paired with a terrible d partner. Johnson is one of the worst LD in the league. I think if they pair him with Lindholm or Fowler, he might play decent enough.

Then again, it was only a 7th rounder and the ducks have needed another RD since they traded Vatenan and Montour... oh and how are they doing? not great at all. ANd they were "steals" when they were traded too. haha

This trade tree is slowly flaming out. The 2015 1st rounder (Matt Barzal) has now turned into Andreas Martinsen + 7th round pick (ANA). Ouch!

Yep. Just add two Stanley cup championships in between there.

I would trade a hell of lot more than Matt Barzal for a SC win in Van-City!! We could start with my left nut.

Pittsburgh loses salary and a defenseman, Anaheim gains a RHD that they’ve been wanting. Both teams win the trade.

His contract length isn’t bad, so that’s why he was able to get moved. Lucic would be a better example.
