Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Brown, Logan
  2. Ryan, Bobby
Additional Details:
Ottawa has an abundance of terrific young centres coming up with Batherson and Norris. And they already have Colin White.
OTT
  1. Fiala, Kevin
  2. Rask, Victor
Additional Details:
Per Bruce Garrioch, the Wild have been listening to offers on Fiala. The Senators could use a speedy winger like Fiala whom doesn’t seem to fit in with the Wild.
2.
MIN
  1. Perlini, Brendan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Perlini has been given permission to seek a trade.
CHI
  1. Donato, Ryan
Additional Details:
A rare trade between Central Division rivals.
3.
MIN
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Staal, Eric ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Staal provides depth down the middle. The Bruins have had interest in the past and with Krejci’s health always in concern, Staal can play third line centre but also step into the second if needed.
4.
MIN
  1. Kemp, Philip [Reserve List]
  2. Lavoie, Raphael [Reserve List]
  3. 2020 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Wild get younger and fill their weak prospect pool.
EDM
  1. Eriksson Ek, Joel
  2. Zucker, Jason
Additional Details:
Zucker gives Edmonton additional scoring on the wing. He can also play to the speed of McDavid. Three years left on the contract is appealing to the Oilers. Eriksson Ek gives the Oilers a third-line centre option behind McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins.
5.
MIN
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Pateryn, Greg
Additional Details:
This trade is made at the 2019-2020 trade deadline. Winnipeg adds depth to the defence.
6.
MIN
  1. Bean, Jake
Additional Details:
Bean is stuck behind a log-jam of defencemen in Carolina. He will get his chance with Brodin traded.
CAR
  1. Greenway, Jordan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Carolina is looking for another top-six forward. I think Greenway would fit in nicely.
7.
MIN
  1. Anderson, Joey [RFA Rights]
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Brodin, Jonas
Additional Details:
With Andy Greene leaving, the left side on defense is thin. Ray Shero is not afraid to make deals and he fills the hole.

With $21m in cap space, the Wild could take back Backes with some modification of the deal. What would think is fair for 1 year of Backes?

I'm not sure how realistic the deals are, but I don't hate them. Boldy will likely stay in the NCAA next year and Lafreniere is some wishful thinking. I think I'd rather just hold on to Bobby Ryan and if he needs to be bought out, do it with only a year left. They don't need the cap space bad enough to deal with dead cap space for 4 years.

How do Oilers take on Zucker?
And are the Senators still at the cap floor after that trade, I wanna say no.

I’d love to. I have always thought Backes and a ok prospect/mid level pick for Victor Rask. Saves Minny over 7m in actual salary and gets out from under that horrible trade and 3 years of Rask.

If they want to trade Staal and Rask and retain 1m on one of them for Backes a 1st and mid level prospect or 2 i’m in. Flip Rask for an expiring contract afterwards. If i had a place to flip Rask for sure i don’t even need the retention.

In the scenario above, they've already traded Rask to Ottawa so would Staal 50% retained for Backes, a 2021 1st and some random prospect or 2 work?

Ignoring the scenario above, I could get behind Staal and Rask with salary retained on 1 of them for Backes, a 1st, and a prospect or two. Quality of the prospects would probably determine if the retention is on Staal or Rask.

This is also for the 2020-2021 season and not moves to be made this season. I was also conservative with only a slight increase in the cap ceiling. It could be higher. But Backes coming back wouldn’t be a bad idea.

This is for the 2020-2021 season. Plenty of moves can happen between now and then. I was also conservative with only a slight increase in the cap, but it could be higher.

I am not sure about the Senators, but Thomas Chabot’s new deal kicks in next year though.

Thing is next year B’s buy out Backes and it’s the same cap hit as Rask but only for 1 year (1m the 2nd) and frees up a roster spot. But yes something could easily be worked.

Carolina won't move bean for greenway, he's number 9 in line rn, but TvR goes at the end of this year and so does Edmundson. It also looks like Fleury is likely to be moved, so there's no way they move Bean

Where are you getting this information? Why are you assuming all of those players get moved?

He is right on that. They would not move Bean for Greenway regardless. But with TVR and Edmundson on their final years they will just let them go. They’d make room for Bean if they were not.

But all in all this was very well done.

Logan Brown has finally started to gel at the NHL level. No way do they trade him now.

The Sens have some good Centres, but the only one with any true 1st line upside is Logan Brown. Batherson is not a centre, I don't care what Cap Friendly lists him as.

Sens may have looked into Fiala, but unless they're getting a really sweet deal, there's no reason to try and force a deal. If there's one thing Ottawa has in spades it's Speedy LWs. Formenton, Balcers, Abramov, Gruden, hell Norris may even have to move to wing long term.

Thanks for the feedback. I know the Senators are looking for another ‘Namestnikov-type’ deal. I thought Fiala might fit what they’re looking for. Do you have a counteroffer that would make sense for both sides?

The Sens AHL squad currently is currently at max capacity for forwards, so I'd imagine they'd be willing to part with someone from Belleville. There would probably be a a mid round pick involved too. Probably a 3rd/4th, but I wouldn't trade any picks from this coming draft.

Honestly I don't love Fiala as a fit for Ottawa, so I'd Say Veronneau and a 3rd would be as high as I would go. Veronneau is a wicked fast RW, who looked good in the NHL Last year.

Honestly, one of the best threads I've seen in a long time. My only gripe is that this doesn't really solve the left shot issue, but maybe with fresh faces it won't be as much of an issue anymore.

Ottawa declines this very quickly.

We are very high on Brown. It will take more than that to pry him from our hands
