Detroit isn't going to take JJ they are finally getting rid of 3 players that are over 30. For a more in depth explanation the link below has a conversation I had yesterday with PHARROW on this exact topic.
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/279713

At the start of the month The Athletic had an article titled: Sizing up the NHL: 2019-20 NHL teams by age, height, weight and nationality by James Mirtle and this is What he had to say about Detroit:

Quoting: James Mirtle
The Red Wings, meanwhile, get the award for most 30-plus players, as they incredibly have nine on the roster, including four who are 35-plus. That’s hard to do given there are only 26 across the entire NHL. Steve Yzerman has a lot of work to do getting that group younger and more competitive.

I'm going to be honest. JJ is beating my expectations this year.
He's got 10 games under his belt and he's a +/- of 0.

I mean shizit I don't care how you flip it that's a win.
He played well tonight against Dallas. If he can just keep his Shiz together all year it will be ok.
Dumo coming back will be a big help on the blue line.
They also need AG and Malkin to come back.
They need more help getting the puck out their own end. They get pinned down there. I know it's going to happen from time to time. The other team gets paid to be down there too. But it can't be extended periods like it was in the 2nd period. But Murray played solid, and the defense helped him out. The offense finally found some room in the 3rd and got some secondary scoring going.
Should be interesting to see Malkin and AG come back onto the ice and see what this team looks like.
I think the pairing that really needs some work is the MP and Schultz pairing. I was not liking how long they were stuck in their own end.

JJ hasn’t looked bad but if the opportunity comes to move him they have to take it. Things are gonna get interesting once Dumo comes back because Riikola and Marino looked good together tonight. When it comes to Schultz maybe they try pairing him with Dumo? I think Letang would do just fine with Pettersson on his left side and I think Schultz needs someone like Dumo in the worst way.
