I like Regula but Perlini helps fix the Red Wings lack of depth but still doesn't make them a playoff team

A decent prospect for an average player. Regula is a ppg as a defenseman in the OHL, perlini is leauge average. If Regula pans out to be what he has been so far in Juniors, this could be a huge win for Chicago.

It seems like a fair trade, but Chicago is obviously playing the long game here. Id say in 3 years Chicago probably has the best player. I really hope Perlini gets a chance in DET though, I never had any ill will for him.

I actually think this is a fair deal. Perlini lost a roster spot. Nylander won it. So he wasnt going to play, With that said, I think Perlini is still a solid player that just needs more consistent ice time which he'll get in DET. CHI has probably watched as much London Knight Hockey as anyone last year...so they probably like him.

Not saying it's nothing, but PPG in the CHL is nothing serious. Points don't describe how a defensemen plays his primary position:defense.

You could put McDavid on the team and they still wouldn't make the playoffs.

I think Detroit wins this.
3rd round pick, just based on the statistics you are looking at an under 20% possibility of him making it to the NHL.
Especially with defense men, it's much harder to predict where they will end up as opposed to say a winger.
Perlini has at least shown he can help the bottom 6 out.
Something about 1 in the hand is worth 2 in the bush kind of sums up this trade to me.
I think in general it was sort of a FU from chicago. Don't want to be a blackhawk, here go to detroit. Might as well sent him to Ottawa.

Looks awesome for Detroit. Perlini was supposed to be better than he really ended up being, and although Regula might be pretty good in the future, Perlini is an awesome depth piece for Detroit right now.

So Regula is a PPG player in the OHL ....

Rookie Year (16 years old) = 53 GP / 5 PTS = 0.09 PPG
Draft Year (17 years old) = 71 GP / 25 PTS = 0.35 PPG
Draft + 1 (18 years old) = 77 GP / 45 PTS = 0.58 PPG
Draft + 2 (19 years old) = 10 GP / 10 PTS = 1.00 PPG

Does 10 points as an over-aged and over-sized defensemen make you a point per game player overnight?

He's playing on the London Knights with Ryan Merkley, Liam Foudy and Connor McMichael ... against kids.

Those guys are creating the offense not Regula.

I meant so far this season. If he continues this, and he is able to be good in pro, this is a massive win for the Hawks. He seems to have a big upside imo.

Perlini is a liability on D, and his work ethics is a suspect. Even if he scores 20 goals, he still is not someone CHI needs, with some kids in the lineup and bunch more coming next year, CHI needs some hard working raw models, Perlini is not one. Even if the Regula turn out to be an AHL guy, its still fine. Fair trade for now, but with possibility of a win for CHI in 3 years.

While I agree with this statement there are other aspects that show his defensive play. I'm sure there are going to be some people on here that berate me for using "an old useless stat" but he has been top 2 on his team in +/- every year hes been in the OHL. He has improved each year in this department and is a +14 through 10 games this year. On top of that his ice time has gone up each year and he is playing against other teams top lines. He is still fairly young too, having an August birthday.
I'm not out here saying this kids all the real deal but he has shown improvements year over year. He is one of the few defenseman in the OHL that can and is willing to play both sides of the puck. Not to mention he's a BIG boy. He is something the Blackhawks have NONE of.

Well, tbh, trying to read boxcar stats for defenders is difficult to begin with, and, frankly, the OHL's website only lists so much in terms of stats. I would hesitate to make any definitive conclusions about a junior player based on what stats the OHL publicly provides. (As an aside, many of the European leagues do list advanced stats like Corsi, etc. on their websites, which is more helpful for evaluating players if you're, for example, a busy adult with many important things to do that aren't "watch hockey tape all day".)

A current third/fourth liner whose window to move up is closing for a projected bottom pairing defender with size (with maybe #4D upside if this years PPG over 10 games is an awakening of an offensive game). I think its fair. Detroit gets a forward they can play more minutes to see if he lives up to his first round billing in a new environment. Chicago gets a big defensive defender who they hope can be a contributor in the future when they'll need cheap ELC players.

I think the previous post was missing the point a bit. I agree with you about the PPG stats. They really aren't that impressive. With that said...would it be the worst thing that he's not the one getting the points??? That's not why the Hawks traded for him. Even more to your point...He's played opposite of Bouchard, then Boqvist, now Merkley. How lucky can 1 guy get?!?! At this stage I'm not sure whether this is a positive or negative. He's still been getting the top pair roles 3 years running. He's still been getting a ton of impact minutes. The Hawks need another big man on the back end in their system. worth the risk, no?

***EDIT*** The knights did lose more talent than they gained though. Bouchard, Boqvist, Formenton all lost. Merkley added.

Its a team with no chance now throwing a dice for the future, worth it to me, Perlini is wasted in Chicago anyways. Even trade

I'm giving this win to CHI, as Regula is an interesting prospect. Because Perlini is a reclamation project, DET could've bought a little lower on him.

Can we call this a win for CHI yet? Perlini's 4 points in 38 games... Regula is the OHL's defenseman of the month for February.

Not until Regula does something in the NHL. The blackhawks don't benefit from him putting up points in Junior.

DET had it all backwards; they should've dealt Regula for Fabbri and de la Rose for Perlini. Still, I guess it all evens out for DET.
