So we take Buf to bury his salary? Thus it's injured Laine for Toews and Gus?

Lol yeah...this is a no. Not to mention Laine’s contract is up in 2 years and after what we saw this summer, no thanks.

I don't think this makes any sense for both teams

Jets refuse.

Gustafsson is FA next summer and they won't have the cap to resign him. Add the fact Toews contract AAV isn't really good from now until the end of his contract. He's paid based on past performance even though he was good last season. (like Price and Erik Karlsson) (Pat Kane is the one living up to his contract)

Besides Toews will retire as a Hawk and has a full NMC.

seriously.... chicago would be to be insane not to take this deal... a rental and a player declining for a 21 year old sniper (and playmaker apparently) that has one of the best shots in the nhl already... adding that to their young core makes them completely lethal

btw wpg says hell no

Disagree. Hawks could get more if they traded these two separately. Especially if the Gus trade comes with conditional picks on him resigning.

Toews has full NMC, he isnt going anywhere and Gus is a rental... going to get around a decent prospect and 20-30 pick... as for the conditional pick... most cup contenders can't afford to resign him anyway, he's going to get a big raise

Gus will get a 1st round pick + as a rental. That's fine because Hawks won't re-sign him in the offseason given that both Mitchell and Boqvist will be ready on the right side which Gus plays and they have plenty more prospects on the left side like Beaudin, Holm, Gilbert, Vlasic which 2 of 4 are already ready to step up.

Another thought, how does a player who just set record highs in goals, assists, and points last year and is one of the most successful faceoff % guys in the league on a decline?

So you classify him being on a career decline because he’s having a slow start to the season?

yep, as well as him being on the wrong side of 30. Hes on the pace for under 20 points obviously it's going to improve but can't see alot of value with him having a cap hit of 10.5m for the next 4 years,

hey i like toews and would love to have him play for wpg but giving up a young player like laine is just crazy
