I'm not entirely sure of Martin's value. I don't think he's worth nothing (probably more than this), but I don't think he's worth a lot either. Martin would be a good fit for a tweener team like Arizona as a leader, and they could probably use the depth. Out of conference means that we won't see Martin often and we won't worry about him in the playoffs. Other possible teams in mind were LA, the Sharks (barring cap issues) and Columbus. What do you think Martin is worth?

Considering his contract only has one year left on it, and he's probably going to want a similar-ish payday at the end of the year, why bother giving it to him when we have a younger guy who plays his role better while also scoring points? Ross Johnston can easily fill his role in the true grit line and probably do it better, and considering he's signed for multiple years and for cheaper, I don't see why we wouldn't do this.
