Description
The game against NSH was pathetic. I know it’s just one game but they need to be more consistent. I’ve been giving JC the benefit of the doubt, but this is getting ridiculous. After what seems like an eternity without a PPG or even a shot on the PP you can’t just continue to role out the same lines over and over again. Also the 5v5 lines he throws out makes me think he’s just trying to send an unnecessary message to the team that he’s in charge by not playing players like Toews and Saad together or putting Strome and Cat on the same line for most of the season. I will say I applaud him for scratching Seabrook on back to back games but now he needs to sit Gus, he’s only on this team to score on the PP which isn’t happening and he couldn’t play defense against a 3’6 peewee hockey player.

Lehner needs to start every game possible. Crow has been great in the past but he just can’t make the key saves anymore like Lehner can. Also we brought in more grit this season to push teams around , but when you’re getting outplayed everyone except Gilbert is afraid to throw a hit. Shaw, Cags, Carpy and Määttä need to start throwing their weight around more.

Finally, I’ve liked the way Dach has played so far, I know some people don’t like him but I do, having said that this, to me, was definitely his weakest game so far. I still think he should stay up for the full season because I’d rather see Dach get minutes then Smith, but he definitely needs to get stronger on his skates. I would also like to see, if Dach stays, the hawks bring up and play Boqvist. Even if Boqvist is worse defensively then Gus, which can’t be true, he should have more enthusiasm on the ice and would definitely make a difference on the PP. If Dach plays the full season why not go all the way and bring up Boqvist? In my opinion the difference between Boqvist and Gus isn’t going to determine whether they make the playoffs or not, and if it’s ok for Dach to learn in the NHL why not Boqvist too.

These are my thoughts after tonight’s game. Feel free to share yours down below.

Boqvist needs time to develop. D guys don't develop as fast as forwards and Boqvist still looks like a boy. Defensively, he definitely is worse then Gus. Have you watched the Icehogs when he was playing? I say bring him up as a forward. Boqvist is fast, elusive and has a shot. We need speed.

Playing him in a completely different decision will absolutely destroy his development. If we bring him up, he should be playing defense.

Watch him in Rockford against men....either we wait for him to grow up and fill out a few years or try him as a winger.

I don't think he's ready yet, but I doubt it will be more than a year before he is ready.

We'll see. Keith took awhile too.

I can't say I get to see a lot of the Icehogs, but do you think he'll be ready by mid-season or are we going to have to wait until next year?

We are going to need to wait two to three years until he really makes an impact. That's not to say they can't bring him up, but h'es got a fair amount of growing to do.

I understand that he’s not going to be a top pair guy right away, or even within his first few years, but Gus is playing third pair minutes and I think Boqvist playing those minutes with de Haan or Määttä could be more effective considering Gus is off to a very slow start.

I’d say send dach back and don’t waste the first year of his ELC. This team isn’t making the playoffs this year, and dach needs to learn to hustle more and get some drive. Let him go back to juniors and actually get consistent against guys his own age, cuz he doesn’t look like he belongs in the nhl to me. As for boqvist, I do take the defensemen take longer to develop path. He is gonna need to fill out and get better defensively. It may take a year or even two, but when he does, he is gonna be good.
