Krazy Kaprizov Idea

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 30, 2019
Published: Oct. 30, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the contracts of Zuccarello, Parise, and Suter weighing this horrible team down (seemingly) forever, the Wild are a minimum of 5 years from possibly being legitimate Cup contenders! Even if Kaprizov is as good as expected, his prime years will be wasted here...which is why the Wild should seriously consider moving him for future pieces that will better align them for success 5-7 years from now.

  1. Dach, Kirby
Additional Details:
This trade is representative of the kind of trade I’d be looking for - a team that might want to make one last run at the Cup, or a team very close that is looking to add that one, final piece to the puzzle. This trade would (obviously) be made thus summer - probably at the draft.

I would like to see other options for this idea too...teams and prospects/picks that fit.

Makes sense, but you’re not really responding to the spirit of this idea.

What the Wild should do IMO is make 1 trade to get a partner for Kaprizov. Then take 1 short term bad contract and draft 1 of Perfetti/Byfield/Lundell/Lapierre. Ill make an AGM shortly

I think the biggest problem on the Wild is the lack of an elite 1/2C.
Eric Staal is okay but he's nearing the bottom end of his career and frankly shouldn't be relied on for 1st line C duties.
Unless Eriksson Ek can break out soon, the Wild have a huge need for a center right now.

You also can't really rebuild with the Suter, Parise, Zuccarello contracts so maybe try to acquire a solid center via trade. I really like the wingers on the wild but on center its basically eric staal and a bunch of bottom-6 Cs.

Good points, but what my plan here is to try to acquire future pieces to have this team ready to roll when the bad contracts and/or old players are gone. The Wild have spent 20 years spinning their wheels trying to win now and it hasnt worked...at all! They need to trade anyone and everyone they can to load up on as many picks and players/prospects under 22 as possible...lose as many games as possible for the next 2-3 years...and actually build something...NOT continually put lipstick on a pig! Otherwise, the next 20 years will be exactly the same... What’s the definition of insanity again???

Isn't Chicago in the same boat though? Would make more sense to send Kap to a team with a good prospect whose already a decent team in the playoffs. So they can bank on Kaps potential production now. This trade above doesn't really make sense as Dach may end up being a impact player to Chicago before Kaprizov does.

Also, just my opinion but Kap isn't worth a top 3 pick prospect.....yet anyway. Part of what makes a prospect valuable is having him during his young age to bank on his ELC years and less productive years as he matures. By the time Kaprizov comes to the NHL and makes an impact he'll be older than Auston Matthews is now for example. That's a lot of hockey lost in his career to the KHL. I stand firmly on until Kaprizov comes NA and produces in the AHL or NHL at a rate worthy of his hype, Im not getting over exaggerated about his potential.

His scoring is impressive no doubt but we've seen to many players have great KHL seasons only to be "good" in the NHL. Its a whole different beast over here. Coaches want you to sacrifice scoring by playing defense, back checking, blocking shots, taking a hit to make a play. etc etc etc. Tons of career AHL'ers have great scoring skill but not the other assets to go with it which is why they never stick in the NHL despite being uber talented.

Kap's KHL numbers have peaked my interest so that the 5th rounder status and 5'9 height are less important but he still needs "prove it" over here. Until than he will always have an asterisk over his name in my books. Expecting a 18 year old 6'4 center prospect who was taken 3rd OV in a deep draft to be equal value to Kap isn't realistic IMO.

The best possible outcome for Kaprizov and the Wild is getting him to come to Minny and play to prove he's the real deal AND THEN trading him for the big haul that better aligns with their future roster projection. Otherwise your just putting the carriage before the horse.

You could have saved yourself, and me a lot of time if you would have read the part where I said, “ This trade is representative of the kind of trade I’d be looking for...”

Then replace Dach's name with whichever name you would think of differently....... You chose Dach, so I responded. Don't like it? Too bad. "The kind of trade you are looking for" applies to my comment. Fine, don't use Dach. Use whichever kind of player are looking for then. It applies all the same.

I can't plot out every single trade scenario and respond to all of them ambiguously. Only the one at hand. Anyways, most of my comment was in regards to Kaprizov's value as a prospect aside from what would come the other way in trade.
