He isn't worth as much as we Pens fans value him due to his contract being for another 4 years.
Still a great player with amazing net-front presence.
If the pens really wanted to get a younger forward for him, they'd package him to Minnesota for Jason Zucker.

I just feel like he doesn’t fit in the team’s plans especially if they’re not going to use him in the top 6. If he waives his NTC the penguins could trade him for an NHL capable defenseman giving them an avenue to get rid of JJ and rotate ZAR and Lafferty into the lineup.

I was doing this over the summer and got absolutely fried for it. But as of right now I think getting a defenseman back makes the most sense especially if they’re still trying to move JJ.

I get that, but our PP is already struggling and removing his net front presence will just make it worse. Those clap bombs from Geno especially become a lot less dangerous without him being in front of that net like a maniac. No one else on the team can and will do it better. I think we should keep him and look at ZAR and some other assets to improve defense. But thats my opinion, yours makes sense too

he also makes about 2-3 mil too much for 2 more years than he should, is terribly slow, and somewhat injury prone, though that comes with being a smaller power forward

same.
Realistically, if we move JJ, we could splurge in FA on a LD.
Zucker is a lot younger and is a good defensive forward on a bad Wild team.
The problem is Hornqvist is huge on the PP. No one on our team can screen the goalie as well as him and crosby and malkin take advantage of this.

This is the same site where the pens trolls say it costs a 1st round pick to move Gudbranson and that JJ contract will take your 3 best prospects next 2 1st round picks and the SUN to trade.
You really want their opinion on a players value.

He's got more Even strength goals than all but 2 or 3 players on Boston.
That's true for a lot of other teams as well. But all their trolls will tell you he's worthless.
Just remember that when he bangs a goal in their net.
