Would Gus be impactful on Leafs with Barrie and Rielly as #1 and #2 PP options? Also IDK about Crow, but he seems to be struggling a lot this year. Just my two things about this. It would be a fair deal.

Do the leafs even have the cap space for this? They have Zach Hyman coming back from injury at 2.5 mil. They would have to more than just Kapanen.

I don't like it. Gus without PP points isn't really worth while and I'd sooner keep Hutch as backup than lose Kapanen. I think you can do much better with movie Kapanen than a PP Specialist that isn't needed and an aging goalie who really doesn't look good.

To me...this is the PIT model and TOR would be telling the league..Fine...go ahead and score 5 on us every night. That is actually a fantastic trade. TOR gets Cro for a fair price and can resign him to a reasonable number in the offseason. Gus will be a solid addition to the D (in the right role.) CHI gets a guy who could easily fit in with Toews and Kane and add some speed. Also not tied up to retaining Cro's salary for too long because the deal expires at the end of this season. I love it.

The only reason the Leafs would do this deal, is they are "going for it" this year. So they trade for two expiring contracts which are always expensive.
A rested Crawford, helping Andersson might help the Leafs get a few more wins. Hutchinson to be included in the trade also. Gustafsson should be better than Holl or Marincin which helps the Leafs defence.
If never else Gus will help balance the right side. Doesn't really matter who plays the PP, it's hoping Ceci, Barrie and Gustafsson can play quality 20 minutes each. Heck put Marner at right point on the PP which he did well last year.
Leafs have enough wing depth to fill Kapanen spots..either will current Leafs or Marlies Korshov.

Hawks should try to make another trade so they aren't carrying Performance Bonus money into next season.
