I'm confused as to why the Devils take such a poor offer?

Stone: Branstrom (1st)+2nd+Interesting lotto ticket (Lindberg).

Hall gets the same, or more. You've got quantity here, but not quality.

Stone was already committed to re-signing in Vegas, there's your difference.

Ok, how about some others as examples:
Shattenkirk to WSH: Sanford (2nd rounder)+Malone (depth)+1st+3rd. Hall >>>> Shatty
Eric Staal to NYR: 2 x 2nd+Saarela. Staal was in the midst of his worst NHL season. Hall >>>> Staal.
Martin St Louis to NYR: Callahan (their captain at the time)+1st+conditional 2nd. 27 year old Hall>>>>>38 year old St Louis.

Heck, even Jarome Iginla netted the flames a 1st round pick as a late 30s player.
