Description

On Vancouver's side of the trade, they take almost $2M less AAV for 2 more years than with Loui Eriksson. With Pettersson needing a new deal sooner than Chicago with DeBrincat and Dach, this move is a way to get cap relief for both teams during the time that they need it.

but the canucks already have contracts coming off in time for EP and QH extensions. why trade for a old guy with a NMC right before the expansion draft. that would prevent us from protecting someone younger and better

Would be better to just buy out the last year of Erikssons contract. Pretty sure thats the route Jim will take unless a team will take Loui on next summer after he is paid his signing bonus. Which is likely especially If the Canucks retain salary. Could help a bottom team reach the floor.
