Georgiev and DeAngelo

Created by: Trickster
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 31, 2019
Published: Oct. 31, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Slight variation to this trade done by few different people.
Is this enough value to Rangers? Able to upgrade picks if neccessary.

Obviously this move likely means Rangers dont extend Kreider without a significant salary move.

My thoughts for extensions for DeAngelo and Georgiev are :

2 years at 3 million AAV to Deanglo with long term extension to be negotiated later. (Basis is the Pionk signing)

3 years @ 1.25 million AAV to Georgiev (basis is Desmith signing)

This move might allow is to keep Hyman who I feel we need more than Kapanen.

This of course my opinon :

Kapanen = DeAngelo
Bracco, Petan, and 3rd = Georgiev
5th rounder = Di Giuseppe

I think Kapanen is a bit better, and Deangelo isn't the right guy. We don't need another slick skating puck mover, we need a hainsey/muzzin type who can actually play shutdown D, which Deangelo is incapable of (like Rielly and Barrie)

I mean here are the Dmen with a better point rate than Deangelo...and consider the caliber of teams most of those guys are on.

How much do you think that's worth?

DeAngelo would be paired in a 3rd pair role with Dermott on the left which is paired with a shut down defensive defenseman that is what Dermott is Dermy can also skat as well, smart pairing if you ask me, if your looking for that RHD shut down top pair guy it'll cost Nylander and the dman will be in the 6-8 million range

That was my thought as well but do you think that's a slight overpay for Georgiev? I haven't watched him much but his numbers look good.

Kappys + a pick could probably get both DeAngelo and Georgiev

That was my thought too, I think Dermott and DeAngelo would be a pair if we traded for him however, I haven't watched him play much do I don't know too much about his game although Trickster says he'd be a great fit.

Also on here you have him paired with Rielly but do you think DeAngelo and Dermott would make a good pairing next year?

Could be, would require moving Hyman for cap space and then going super cheap like Fantenberg for 3rd pair or Holl Gain.

At that use the money remaining money for 1st pair D.

It's really Kapanen for George and Tony. The other pieces don't mean much. Rangers are at the cap too, and they would be taking more on. If DeAngelo is thought to be an NHL competent now and with growth in the future, Rangers don't trade him for 2nd/3rd line RWer. Rangers don't have motivation to give away Georgiev. Trade fill two needs for the Leafs but for Rangers, not so sure.

Ranger fans have said Fox can replace DeAngelo and Shesterkin is ready to make Georgiev expandable.

Like you said their cap situation is bad, especially with Shattenkirk buyout.
They cant pay either guy.

Can't pay either guy, I'm talking this year. You trading them 3.2m Kapanen and combined DeAngelo and George make 1.6m. and then they still need a 900,00 replacement for George...that;s 2.5m additional cap to the Rangers this year.
Maybe those Rangers fans should realize that team needs 6 or 7 NHL Dmen in the course of the year. Don't understand how Fox replaces DeAngelo. Lots of positions for competent Dmen.
Yeah I understand about Shesterkin but should Rangers just give away George when Lundqvist has less than two year left?

I have mentioned before during the summer about how a top pair D (at least someone who can play with Rielly) is needed and the likely guys to move were Marner or Nylander because moving Matthews is just dumb.
Fast forward a few months and after the Marner overpayment, Nylander is the only realistic move Dubas can make to get the kind D help this team badly needs.

After hearing some NYR fans' opinions, I don't know if DeAngelo is the right guy for this defense.

As a Ranger fan I look at Georgiev and DeAngelo as guys they can trade (because of Shesterkin and Fox) but dont have to unless they get what they need. So while trading them for Kapanen, Bracco and a third round pick isn't bad, I'd still look around a bit before pulling the trigger. Trading DeAngelo is a risk because there are times he looks absolutely fantastic.

I dont think the rangers would do it. Kapanen is a good player that they'd like, but DeAngelo is going to get paid like 40-50 point dman (not sure he is that but thats the rate he'll get in the off season if he keeps his play up). So we are talking 5-6 mm per year for 5 years this off season. If the rangers have shown anything its that they can develop quality Goalies lately, so I think a 23 year old goalie is getting more in return then people think. It's hard to find young cheap goalies. And the rangers dont have to trade him.
