If you are a habs fans, you know MTL will never do that. Romanov will play top4 next year 2020-2021, and have a higher ceiling than Brodin.

I also would like to get Brodin but definitely not at the expense of Romanov.

Romanov has a better chance of being the Russian Lindstrom than being a bust. If the the habs I’m not trading him unless you overpay by a lot. World juniors he looked Amazing. I have a chub over alexeyev and Romanov is way better than him.

Would Brodin be on Habs top LD? Yes, you are correct.

Is Brodin a top pairing Dman? No...the answer is no.

Brodin is a solid 2nd pairing Defensive dman. He does not play play any PP minutes and is a PK guy. Zero chance I give one of MTLs top prospects for him.

Not to say Habs wouldn't have interest. They absolutely would! But it would revolve around MIN taking one someone like Kulak or Reilly, with MTL giving up a B prospect + probably a solid draft pick (2nd or 3rd rd pick depending on the prospect). I think that's more than fair.

Habs really need a top pairing LD. Brodin isn't it.

Brodin can't be extended until July 1st, and by then MTL will likely know whether or not Romanov is coming to NA or staying in Russia for another year, and if Romanov is coming to NA why bother trading him for Brodin before seeing how well he adapts to the NHL game. Maybe revisit this idea next season around Christmas if things don't work out for MTL.

That's only because the Habs have a weak LHD core. Not because Brodin is that good.

He's a good player and the Habs could totally target him but there is no need to spend Romanov to get him. Minny would trade him for cheaper than that.

Edit: Did you add in Alzner and Reilly afterwards? That changes everything. Very tempting but considering the Habs don't need the cap space right now, there is no incentive to do this either. If the Habs were cap strapped, maybe they do it.
