Melnyk keeps his promise and spends to the cap and Ott has 2 top 5 picks

Created by: Tchuckycheese
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2019
Published: Nov. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's say Melnyk scores big at the casino and takes that cash to keep his promise of unparalleled spending or success or whatever garbage he spewed earlier in the summer and actually spends to the cap the next season AND the sens have two top 5 picks, who do they take? I lean Lafreniere if they also plan on taking a guy like Holtz who is a pure goal scorer. We do need a #1 centre and as we've seen with White when he plays with a skilled guy like he did with Stone, he can be potentially that guy. Likewise with Brown I'm sure, though I see him being a #2 centre as he isn't a big points guy. At this point, I'm just living in as much delusion as old man Mel. Go easy on me lads.

Also, I just signed our own guys to whatever just to make it quicker and put little to no thought and this doesn't account for us being sellers at this years deadline.

What would you like to see the team look like next year? Either way, it should be quite different from this years team.

It would be such an ottawa thing for them to have two lottery picks and neither of them is top 3. Although Melnyk will probably have lafreniere traded before he has to pay him like 11mill cuz hes a cheap ****.

Sure, why not? I could see that almost having to happen because Mel sells Pager so he doesn't have to re-up his contract.

I was THIS close to posting one of these yesterday. the senators are going to have 2 top 10 picks like one top 5 the other just outside unless the sharks somehow pull it together. but even their second rounders are going to be top of the round picks. i know absolutely nothing about the senators farm system but, they should grab one of the centers. how is their goalie situation? If im the senators my list goes: their own pick: laf, byfield, perfetti, stutzle, sharks pick: askarov. As i said idk their goalie prospects at all but askarov is going to be legit. they need to get him with that sharks pick.

Didn't Melynk say he would start spending to the cap in 2021? Non playoff teams shouldn't be spending to the cap anyway. Save some money for when the good RFAs have to be resigned.
Though you lineup with those UFA signings would make the Sens closer to playoff contenders.

Really, he's extended Chabot for 8m a season. It's kinda of a fallacy that Melynk is cheap.(on team salaries). He just refused to overpay outgoing UFAs. Of course he doesn't have any control over UFAs anyway. 12 picks in the top three rounds in the next two years. Ottawa's rebuild might be a going quite well. Now if doesn't retain RFA players by not paying them for the money they deserve, you have a point.

Sens should absolutely be thinking centre with one of those 1st round picks. I would take Byfield 1st overall if I had the chance,

it just depends on where they end up picking. if they are at 4. byfield shouldnt be there. then you go with perfetti or stutzle. Im intrigued to find out where the sharks pick ends up being. they cant really be this bad can they?

I think if you're drafting 4th you may be able to drop back to 6-7 to get your Centre. I think if you get a couple more picks than scoop Stutzle or Lundell or Perfetti even. If Ottawa drafts top 15-18 with the SJS pick, I'd be hard pressed to say no to Marco Rossi.

I think the sharks should pull it back at some point, but when you watch them play, they look like a bunch of beaten dogs. There's no fire there. If I had to guess, they will rebound once they fire the coach, but if they keep waiting the hole they're In only gets deeper.

I mean theres just no chemistry. they are just so top heavy all around theres essentially no depth. jones looks terrible too. but im thinking its a top 10 pick.

If they miss the playoffs, anything can happen. Didn't Philly finish just outside the wildcard the year they got Patrick 2nd overall? Low odds doesn't mean no odds.

The sooner Ottawa can get back to being good, the better. When was the last time Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Buffalo were all good at the same time? Those teams used to go to war against each other.

I'm a Leaf fan and the Leafs went many years as one of the top spenders but had poor teams due to terrible management/coaching. So while folks often criticize a team for "not spending", spending wisely its more important. If you're an Ottawa fan, and even I wish the fans of Ottawa well, you're really crossing the fingers and hoping the Sens now have good management/coaching and an willing owner.
