Martinook is LTIR for a while, otherwise, very much so. And because of the Marleau buyout coming off the books next yaer, they can extend him too

I'm happy with the picks, but I don't know about Mcginn, Gauthier, or Fleury. We aren't looking for depth, especially on defense. Keep those three, give me Bean, and we have a deal.

Yeah was unsure with his LTI status and thought it was shorter term. I'll fix that.

I have no horse in this race, but I can assure you the Canes will not give up Bean in this scenario. Fleury is probably a better fit behind Smith in a year or two: Bean and Smith play an identical style, Fleury gives the Devils a more reliable shut-down option on their second or third pairing. Gauthier is a massive question mark, but McGinn would thrive literally anywhere else as he's been the depth-chart casualty of phenomenal drafting, UFA acquisitions, and good trades.

Even if he comes with an extension you can probably keep one of those firsts, scary that Carolina could pull it off that easily

It was 6-8 weeks for Martinook which is LTIR, anything more than 15 games is LTIR

Martinook hasn't been on LTIR, he's on the regular IR. The 'Canes are not a team that will not or has not used the LTIR for purposes of salary cap relief. LTIR limits your ability to flexibility in your call-ups based on available cap space. In this scenario, it's much more likely that Martinook remains on IR with his salary counting against the cap, and not bringing up Geekie to play a 4th line role (Gibbons instead).

Mostly did that as an option to run a spare, but if the Hurricanes are comfortable running a man shy until Martinook is cleared then so be it. That's far and away from the point of this AGM.

Dundon doesn't care about the money, as long as Martinook is out a month, they get the cap relief. It allows them to still bring up Gibbons if you move the contract to LTIR after you make the call up, you just get cap relief, there are ways NHL teams bounce around it

Yikes if we aren't looking for defensive depth after this start and almots 50 goals allowed in 10 games then everyone needs to be fired. I like the deal, Gauthier's a sniper but he really doesn't do much else. Devs could use a stay at home guy to take on Andy Greene's seemingly endless role.

Did I say Dundon cared about money? It’s cap space flexibility- Why do you think Nook hasn’t been placed on LTIR yet?

No I get that, but it literally doesn't matter in the context of Hall to the Hurricanes. You know the Hurricanes better than I do (I'd argue that you're my go-to tbh); how's the value, why does or doesn't it work.

I don't think the 'Canes are in this to trade away a prospect they really like (Gauthier) in a deal for an expiring UFA. I realize Hall is a top winger in this league, but I don't think 'Canes mgt is ready to believe that they could sign a guy like Hall long term, as I doubt that Hall is taking anything less than market value. Fleury, McGinn, Reimer (if anyone would take him) & picks are the assets that could be on the move for a top winger. Gauthier would only be included, IMO, if the return had term and was a top 6-top 9 talent forward today.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Tom & Don's excellent adventure in the past 18 months, so I could be wrong.
