Barry Trotz

Created by: Isles777
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2019
Published: Nov. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trotz currently has Oliver Wahlstrom on the 4th line with a career AHL center Cole Bardreau and Ross Johnston, a 4th liner at best. Trotz states over and over about player roles, yet the best forward prospect in the organization is placed on a line with a few plugs?? Wahlstrom strength is his shot and ability to generate scoring chances by himself so you'd think he would be put in a position to succeed and not a 4th line checking role. Wahlstrom is in the top 7 for on-ice expected goal share among rookies, so he's been effective in his limited minutes. Trotz is an elite coach but his treatment of young talent is odd. He has a history of doing this with players like Vrana, Burakovsky, and Filip Forsberg, putting these players on lines with borderline NHL players.

Barzal had 85 points in his rookie season, im talking about prospects/players with not much NHL experience.

Even the best coaches in the league make the same strange lineup decisions as the average and mediocre coaches in the league.

This was something that frustrated when he coached in Washington. I think it’s his way of teaching these guys the defensive/checking role of hockey. Long story short Trotz is the best coach in the NHL right now so just go with the flow even if it frustrates you. I wanted him fired and we won a cup that year. His vision works more often than not.

Trotz is the best coach in the league. When the Snow-Weight duo was fired i was obviously ecstatic to see Snow gone, but I actually kind of liked Weight and his system and was genuinely confused why we hired Trotz rather than keeping Weight around as coach. I was still happy about it because he's obviously the best coach we couldve possibly found for the job and now I am absolutely ecstatic about his system. His system is the reason all of the isles haters who said our success last year was "a fluke" and that we weren't making it this year are now all singing chants and cheers about our team and how good we are. I have been an Isles fan since we were one of the worst teams in the league and I hate to see people who misunderstand the situation. Bardreau looks bad on paper but he's been playing great and has been a good piece to our center core, Johnston is good rough n' tough grit (I think better than Martin and his obvious replacement) who's obviously protecting Wahlstrom and Bardreau and Wahlstrom isn't playing fantastically on most lines and has gelled the best with Bardreau and Johnston.

Trust in the vision.

Trotz is the best coach in the league which is why he deserves the benefit of the doubt - that being said, wahlstrom has been one of Islanders best forwards since being called up, statistically the islanders are a better team when wahlstrom is on the ice, which is why it makes no sense to put him with 4th line plugs. It would even make more sense to put wahlstrom with cizikas as he at least has good offensive instincts and playmaking abilities.

I’m just questioning trotz decision to put our best forward prospect with players that have little to no skill. This is no different than when capuano put. Nino niedereter with Marty reasnor and pandolfo and he had like 2 points in 40 games.
