EDM probably scouting the PIT

Created by: pharrow
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 2, 2019
Published: Nov. 2, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Odds EDM is looking at PIT for a center is high.
Bjugstad, is probably an odd man out on the penguins. The penguins clear cap space, get a prospect and EDM gets help on their Bottom 6 by getting a decent center.
I would prefer a RD prospect but EDM doesn't really have one.
Trades
PIT
  1. Samorukov, Dmitri
Additional Details:
Penguins get a LD prospect.
I am going to be honest. There isn't much on EDM to choose from. They have some 1st round prospects that are interesting but they aren't trading them. This would be the most viable trade piece there.
The penguins do clear some cap space though, and maybe he turns into something.
EDM
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
Additional Details:
EDM needs help at center.
Their bottom 6 sucks.
They can make space by sending Ganger down to the AHL. It's not like he belongs in the NHL anyway.

4 million for a bottom 6 player, no thanks, I would rather be patient and let our players develop, its not like we are close to winning the cup. Samorukov is a dam fine prospect and 1 year away from NHL ready!

Samorukov has a pretty high ceiling. He dominated the OHL playoffs last year. I don't think Edmonton does this

Christ! You make a trade designed to address Edmonton's need, that gives them the ability to spread Draitsaitl, McDavid, Nugent-Hopkins and Bjugstad among two lines, turning a pretender into a contender at a very reasonable cost, and Edmonton guys ****. (I actually made a similar trade in a construction for next summer to create enough room to sign Taylor Hall, with the difference noted below.)

You don't like Ethan Bear?

The only reason I'd balk at this is due to Samorukov's ceiling. It's really damn high and I'd be much more willing to move Jones or even Lagesson before Dima. I'm not a fan of giving up THAT much of an asset for what realistically would be a bottom-six player in Edmonton, even if a piece like Gagner was going back to make the cap actually work for Edmonton.

I wouldn't move Bear until the draft IF I was trading him strictly because of how he's performing thus far. If Edmonton is going to squeak into the playoffs, Bear will be a big part of that.

Something like Jones+Gagner for Bjugstad I'd be willing to entertain. Pens could always bury Gagner and still net like $2M in savings.

homers tears of joy

Honestly, it's not a bad move for EDM. No one knows what you really get out of Samorukov. It's not like he was a 1st round pick.
That doesn't mean he doesn't have potential but hell you have to give to get in trades.
I mean honestly you look at the rest of the roster and their prospects, and there isn't much there, at least nothing that they would want to give up.
They got some 1st round prospects they aren't trading. They got some defense they aren't going to move and on the forwards you got like 3 of them that have any interest none of which will be moved.
But hey, EDM fans think JP is worth a 1st and a prospect and that Ganger is an NHL level player.

I think Bear is alright. I don't think EDM would trade from their current defense though if they are planning on making the playoffs. At least not anyone who is competent.
