It's not worth it for either team. Dallas doesn't save very much cap. They lose a great backup. A trade for Byron could work but he's not the type of player the Stars need right now. Sekera could prove useful for the Canadiens but his health is a question.

I don't understand how this is a cap dump for Dallas, you're sending -roughly- 4M$ and receiving -roughly- 5M$ (And that Byron contract is longer)?
Also looking on dobber ''Although some are quick to label the pick as a bust, he has an intriguing skillset.'', not sure MTL would be interested.

The goalie swap is the main piece for Mtl. Byron is not a cap dump but a good winger 2nd or third line winger. The prospect is a B+ prospect. Cap space permits Dallas to improve with Byron and finally solving the Honka intrigue.
