Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Team Explanation
With two-thirds of the top line on the IR, Joe Sakic decides to move out of the first round in order to obtain a versatile RW who can temporarily help fill in on that side. (Playing with Logan Couture, he knows how to support an All-Star center.) And if the experiment fails, it's only for one year.

why trade a late first for an earl second for karlsson. you can trade a 3rd or a 4th and get players equal to him and keep that first. Two seconds and karlsson or a 1st a 2nd and a guy like Glendening .

No I think they hold the fort for a little longer. They spent all offseason trying to build this depth, sucks 3 top 9 forwards are out right now, but they cant panic at the first sign of it being stretched

WIlson will be back soon from Injury, hes day to day, and Rants seems like hes close as well, not the week to week as they once feared. My guess is AJ Greer is called up, Wilson comes back after Dallas game next week and then they try to hold on until Rants is back.

The trade isnt very good as well, dont think thats worst giving up a 1st even if you are getting a 2nd back

No realm. That's why I constructed the trade as shown.

The premise of the trade is that it is essentially moving from 20th to 40th, give or take, plus Karlsson.

trading down to the 2nd round for a guy who is really a bottom 6 20 point pending UFA. Thats not worth it either

I would trade a third for Karlsson.

I don't understand your last sentence. I'm not even sure I know from what team's perspective you're speaking.

Commented on another point, dropping back for Karlsson makes 0 sense, he doesnt hold that sort of value. Hes a guy you can get that sort of production on a waiver wire, not trade designed around for

Hes a bottom 6 forward, hes not a top line fix

That is certainly an entirely understandable position. Perhaps straight across for a third is more reasonable.

even then, I dont see the incentive to do it. At that point just bring up a guy like AJ Greer or Martin Kaut. They could get a few points playing next to MacKinnon, you dont have to waste a 3rd on a guy you have no use for after a week or 2 when Wilson and Rants are back

If they were going to do a trade that involves your 1st, trending back type scenario.... going after Puljujarvi makes more sense, at least you are still investing into young guys that are not UFA rentals

Again, fair enough. Thanks for presenting the counter-argument(s). As the Faber College motto says, Knowledge is Good.

its a different story if Rants isnt as close to returning as it seems. IF hes out till Decemebr or something then yeah Avs would need to do a low buy move like this.
After the next game in Dallas, it seems like they will have a better timelines on Wilson and Rantanen.
