Here we go again, people who never watch him play talking out of their ass. Hes not great but not so bad that we have to trade the world for him. he has played like a solid 3rd pairing D. Overpaid by like maybe 1-1.5mill

he's pretty bad. the data doesn't lie. He can't move the puck at all. Team just gets stuck in their own zone the entire time they are out.

Hes not bad, hes just not great. Theres a difference between the two. He is serviceable as a 3rd pairing with sheltered minutes and does a good job at PK. Pitt has killed 14/15 PKs and he has played a ton of minutes in those. Everyone said we couldnt move Guddy cuz hes basically as bad as Johnson and yet we got a pick and an AHL guy for him without taking on another contract.

No he's bad. the point is to get better. The fact is the Pittsburgh penguins are outscored during 5 on 5 situations more than any other dman, and also outshot and out-possessed when JJ is on the ice. Factor in his 3.25 million cap hit and the fact that he's going to be 33 they should do whatever they can to move his contract. Also you can thank Matt Murray for the PK

Did i say keeping him makes us better? No. Im saying that we dont have to pay "whatever it takes" to trade him. Making kneejerk trades like this hurt your team. Look at guddy, GMJR waited until a team was in desperate need of RD (Anaheim) and used that to his benefit. Best way to trade JJ is with patience. Like your trade isnt bad, its a decent trade. I was talking to the other guy who said we have to pay the world for him or take back some big contract in return cuz apparently thats how salary dumps work??

you are clueless and you clearly don't watch the games.
13 games he's only given up 6 5v5 goals. His 5v5 Corsi is 48.0%. So clearly he's not on his own end the whole game. Which explains why he's a +2 on the year.

No one here is saying he's a 1st pairing top 3 defense man in the league.
But to say he's not a competent 3rd pairing guy is just BS.
He's proving it game in and game out.

For all the ripping people want to do on him. The same trolls are no where to be found while he's playing well.
Meanwhile, it's crickets on how bad their teams 3rd pairing players are.
Who's EDM 3rd pairing LD. Russell? his 43.0% 5v5 corsi. Who they are paying 4M a year too!!!!!!!!
Please, just sit down with the nonsense. Ain't no team in this league got really good 3rd pairing players. If anything JJ is showing he's above par there this season.

Gustafsson is going to cost a lot more than that.

MIN says hell no. A top 6 qinger and a top pairing offensive dman for a couple 3rd liners and probably late 1st and 2nd? No way.
