2 Years Out

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2019
Published: Nov. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Erikssons deal can finally be bought out in the last year of his contract. 4M Year one, 1M year two if they do.

It can also be traded, especially if the Canucks retain salary. Would allow an aquiring team to save real dollars but add to their Cap total for one year.

Its also interesting looking at who may get taken during the expansion draft, theres a lot of contracts ending in 2 years leaving The Canucks protected.

As things stand Id protect:
Fwds: Petey, Boeser, Horvat, Virtanen, Gaudette, Miller, Ferland.
Exposed with contracts: Roussel, Beagle, MacEwen, Lind, Boucher

Protected Defense:
Myers, Stecher, Juolevi
Exposed but expiring: Edler, Tanev
Exposed with Contracts:
Benn - Canucks extend Benn by 1 year so he is eligible to be exposed in the expansion draft.

Exposed Goalie: Markstrom

Seattle takes Markstrom or Kole Lind if they take a player.

Honestly can't see OTT taking Eriksson without any kind of compensation even if it is for the last year of his contract. Especially since at that point they've re-signed some of their young assets, making it uncertain whether they even need assets to get closer the cap minimum.

Ottawa set the model this year...and I think infuriated the whole league, with how to get to the salary floor. It's all covered by insurance.

Agreed with what you guys are saying. OTT should be looking to shed Bobby Ryan for either Loui or...yes...even Brent Seabrook. It's complicated, but Melnyk can actually save money by doing these due to the Signing Bonuses contract Language.

you forgot to protect hughes. as he will have finished his 2nd nhl season(and will have burned the 3rd year of ELC) he will have to be protected. so I would say that stetcher is left unprotected

He doesnt need to be protected as he played less than 10 games in the first year of his contract.

The trade doesnt have to be with Ottawa, there will be other teams looking to add cap and it wouldnt cost much to move his contract at that point.Maybe a 3rd or B prospect. If not he gets bought out. This deal doesnt need to be with Ottawa I just used them as they are the most relevant example.

Yes he will have played two seasons, He would need to have finished his 3rd year to be eligible and his first year doesnt count, look it up.

A year of professional experience is 10 pro games played under an NHL contract, including regular season and playoffs.

Which players are exempt?

1. "All players with less than three years of professional experience are automatically exempt."
2."All players with NMC must be protected."
