I don't think it's ideal to daydream about getting both Lafreniere AND Byfield. Look at some of the Avs fans from AGM who thought they were 99.99% sure their team will get Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko. But I'm sure that pick will still be great even if it's the 10-15 OA

My guess is that the Sharks turn it around, but if they don't its not unreasonable to project Ottawa as having 2 top 5 picks. I have a feeling that if the sharks finish 12th or lower their pick is going to win into the top 3, and Ottawa probably stays bad so around the top 5 is fair.

Even if they get Lafreniere and Byfield, they could still miss the playoff b/c their D-core is still too young and they don't have an elite NHL ready goalie.

I don't think they turn it around unless their coach is fired. And if wilson wants to keep his job, he might want to do it sooner rather than later so he didn't trade away a top 5 pick.

If they get both I think their fans won't care. I. mean... why would they. They would have one of the best young cores in the league and thats only after rebuilding for a couple of years now.

If the Sens get the 1st OA and 2nd OA, it would the second time that the Sens have changed the perception of NHL draft.
1- Tanking to draft supposed "generational superstar" in Alexandre Daigle which was probably one of the main reasons the NHL introduced the draft lottery.

2- Unwillingly shipping their 4 OA pick in a lopsided trade only to receive a top 3 pick in a "supposed one-sided trade". This will probably make all NHL GM more wary of trading their future 1st round pick

I would love nothing more than the SJ pick to win the lottery. I have no love for the Ottawa Senators but that would be the sweet justice the Sens fans deserve.

A team can only be so unlucky for so long.

Even if the Sens get the 5th and 10th pick, the Sens have real potential to build a great young base...which has already started. That Karlsson trade looked bad last year and then the Sharks tried to justify the trade by signing EK to a contract that no one else would have paid.
Three aging Dmen whose cap hit is 26.5m which takes them into their mid to late 30s. Yikes.

Not just the pick. The players and prospects the sens got back are / starting to look like nice pieces.

Whereas Karlsson's injuries are starting to catch up to him.

Better trade a player a year too soon, than a year too late. The trade is starting to look like the right move.
