Dumba Plus One or Two

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2019
Published: Nov. 5, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Because new GM Bill Guerin was dumb enough (or forced) to sign Jared Spurgeon to a SEVEN year contract and the fact the team desperately needs a full rebuild, I am looking for offers for Matt Dumba. The caveats are these: only players and prospects under 23 or picks will be considered AND you have to take 1 or 2 of the following players as well:
Fiala
Donato
Zucker
Zuccarello
Staal
Rask (looooong shot)
Koivu
Dubnyk
My preferences for the return is: 1) Centers 2) Right-shot forwards 3) Right-shot defensemen.

Offer away. Thanks in advance!

You're going to have to take salary back, not many teams can take $10M+ in cap for picks and prospects.

I think that Anaheim and Minnesota are poor trade partners because both have an excess of middle-6 left-handed forwards and both have a lack of depth on the right side of the defense (so you won't get any RD back in exchange for Dumba). Nevertheless, if we had to make an offer, here's mine for Dumba and Fiala:

2020 first
Jacob Larsson
Benoit-Olivier Groulx or Antoine Morand
Daniel Sprong or Kiefer Sherwood

I wish I could offer Ondrej Kase in good conscience (in place of Larsson), but I suspect his injury history.

And those that can, are usually the bad ones at the bottom of the table, so they won't want to trade their first-rounders.

I like it but I think we need to add, or change the 1st to later pick or take it out IMO.

With the team needing a full rebuild, pairing assets with their most valuable asset isn't a good idea. Fiala, Donato, and Zucker are all assets on their own. Some team looking for playoff depth would take Koivu if he'd waive his NMC, same with Staal if the situation was something he'd be up for. No team is taking a struggling goalie without a sweetener so Dubnyk isn't going anywhere and paying to unload Rask is dumb if you're going through a full rebuild. Just wait his contract out. Zuccarello is the only player you listed they'd struggle to move, but again, why do it? Parise and Suter are on the books 6 more years, just hold on to him and see what happens. No need to move players to get worse, they're bottoming out just fine on their own.

I do think Brodin should go though, he's in his prime and he'd hold some value for them if they retained some salary and gave a team 2 playoff runs with him at a cheap cap hit.

The reason I did this is because Dumba has so much trade value that I would require the other team to also take a redundant part (left-shot forward) in the deal. It’s like the opposite is adding to a trade when the other team is taking on a bad contract. I agree about Rask - he shouldn’t be included. But, all the others would add to the Wilds demands AND get rid of players I don’t want to build around.
Brodin is separate from this list only because he’s not a forward, but I would definitely be shopping him for the rebuild as well.

How close would Dumba and Zucker be to getting Marner? Or Nylander and Kapanen?

I need some scouting reports to assess this offer. How good are these prospects?

I like Sergachev and would consider a deal involving him if I also had a deal in place for Brodin and a left-shot forward. I’m a big fan of Cernak too.

How close do you think Dumba for Point straight up is?

I'd say close, but Point may be a tad more valuable. He is also still an RFA after his deal ends I believe. Maybe something like Dumba and one of the young forwards?

Not interested in moving Nylander, probably not even Kapanen if Marner is moved.

How far off am I in value in my trade?

Zucker and Dumba for Marner seems close to me if he's the 90p player he flashed last year. One thing with Marner is that I worry a lot about him not having as good of a center as Tavares and that would certainly be the case here. Seems like he isn't as good without Tavares and we'd be stuck with an $11M 65p player.

What about the pick? Too high? No pick at all??

A pick might be warranted, but Guerin would have to be a fool to trade our 1st right now. We have the 3rd best probability in the league at landing Lafreniere and the worst we can fall to is 6th overall, which will likely still be a great player.

So 2nd rounder instead?
Or how about another 1st that is later in round if you get via another trade?

Eh.. Once again I worry that Marner wouldn't be the player he is in Toronto on the Wild so I'd probably decline, but in reality that's likely the only way we'd get him
