I am happy with that trade if I am Colorado IF Strome is 50pt guy again this year.

Calgary says "Georgiev is too inconsistent for a 1st, here's a 2nd, take it or leave it."

Exactly. Nobody is giving up a 1st in a goalie trade right now.

True, I think Georgiev could end up as an excellent starting goalie but they wont get a first. If Shesterkin is tearing up the AHL at the deadline I'd do it for a 2nd. Maybe throw in another conditional pick if Calgary makes the finals and Georgiev plays half the games. GM's love conditional picks.
That's more than I would give for Puljujarvi but probably less than they want.
The other trades slightly favor the Rangers, I think. The Smith trade would be more likely after July 1, as that would save Ottawa some real dollars. Rangers dont need the cap space this year anyway.

He's a 22 year old goalie capable of being a starter. Why wouldn't they?

Because 23 year old goaltenders are very rarely worth 1st round picks. Calgary also has David Rittich, who has pretty comparable numbers at this point.

The Cam Talbot trade is probably reasonably comparable. He netted the Rangers a late 2nd, 3rd and 6th. Zero 1st round picks.

Look at the guys who passed through waivers a month ago as well-Casey DeSmith (while 5 years older), has a comparable, if not better, track record, and passed through unclaimed. (Though the charges against him probably didn't help his case).

To my knowledge, the last goalie that netted a 1st round pick in a trade was Robin Lehner in 2015, who had a sky-high ceiling at the time, and through 85ish games with the Sens, was basically the top goaltending prospect on the planet.
