So Aston Reese and a 3rd for a serviceable defenseman and take this horrible deal. To get rid of JJ it will take at least AR a d a pick so stop thinking you are going to give the least to get rid of JJ and expect something in return better than bag of pucks.

You don't watch much hockey do you.
You hear a bunch of people say. Yeah JJ sucks......then just go along with the flow.
in 14 games he's given up 6 goals and the team has scored 9 in 5v5 play. In 5v5 close play. It's 6 goals for and 2 against. And at tie it's 2 for and 1 against.
You can flip it, turn it, stand it on it's head. It doesn't matter. Anyone watching knows that whats happening on the ice is working. EVERYONE.
The truth is JJ is playing better 5v5 hockey than many teams 3rd pairings. He's been a solid contributor on the PK, and even helped out a little on the offensive zone.
And he's done it without getting sheltered. 66.7% of his starts on in the defensive end.
WTF are you thinking.

Ok, so you say he is playing better, but history shows that over the last 2 to 3 years he has been bad. A short 10 to 15 games does not mean he has turned any corner. Could he become serviceable in a certain kind of system, sure. But with cap space at a premium do teams want to take that chance?

if you are going by the last 2 years you are wasting your time.
He spent the vast majority of the year last year on his off side playing with mix and match partners because Schultz was out all year. That's not how you judge a player.
The year before that he was in CBJ and not getting along with the coaching staff. That's all there is to that.

We saw this play at the end of last year. When schultz had come back from injury. He was a -20 something until switched back to his natural side where he finished a -4 on the year I think. That means in a short time period he went +16 at the end of the year.
You see now and he's what a +3 or +4.
He's not coughing up goals all over the ice, only 6 goals at even strength.
You can talk about system or this or that or whatever.
How about judging a guy playing on his proper side?
