If the pick is the 2021 this might work. But with the draft beiing held in Montreal this june and with one of the best year for lhjmq montreal will not trade their first pick this year.

Maybe not, but the value is still appropriate. I'd say Meier has more trade value than Pacioretty had when he was moved. The value here is pretty similar.

Meier has had only one good season (last season). Sure he just 23, but this year 4 points in 15 games. Giving up so much for that THAT? It's dreadful for Montreal to take on all that cap, especially when Has need cap space next year.

I get that opinion but the location of the draft really should have absolutely nothing to do with a GM's decision to trade a pick. That's very near sighted, if a solid offer like this comes along being nit picky about stuff like that is idiotic.

I am sorry but you clearly don’t understand the passion and the importance that hockey, the habs have on residents of quebec. The draft is a happening and fan’s would absolutely be angry if bergevin traded their first round pick of this year. Go back in history im sure that there no team that where holding the draft traded their first round pick. People will pay to have ticket for the draft, they cheer for the home town, organization are aware of that. So think about it for a minute amd you will realize that its a dunb idea to trade their pick when the draft is in their building

Pacioretty was captain, elite defensive winger, and consistent 30g guy. I am not sure Meier even comes close to his trade value. Galchenyuk also reached 30g, there are one hit wonders every year. Not sure Montreal would throw the bank at this guy. Especially with Gallagher, Suzuki (RW/C) already in the system, and Ylonen, Caufield coming soon.

The risk with Meier, especially with his poor start to the season in terms of production, is that his numbers will be closer to his sophomore season than his contract year. 6M is a good contract for a 60+ point left shot winger, not bad for a 50+ point per season player based on his averages from the full seasons he's played and isn't great for a career to date 45 point per season average. He's young so there's no reason to write him off, especially when his value will be low. MTL isn't desperate for wingers, they have 6 (and 8 forwards total) with at least as many points as Meier so far this season, which is an admittedly small sample but Meier is a risky pick up.
A team in MTL's position is very unlikely to give up either a solid, seemingly NHL ready Center with top 6 potential after so many years with no depth at C and an unprotected 1st rounder for the draft held in MTL given how PR is important especially in larger markets, and they certainly wouldn't be doing both plus a guy who was playing alright top 4 minutes before being injured along with a conditional 2nd.
I get that's likely the offer that would be needed given his age and term, but it's a complete fantasy to think it will happen.
