Sens Trade Bobby Ryan and a 2021 5th for Seabrook and Chi 2021 1st after July 1, 2020. Money is close this way and Ottawa gets the first to balance out the extra years of cap hit. Seabrook could help mentor Ottawas young left side (Braanstrom and Wolanin) and plays on the bottom pair.

The Wild get Brent Seabrook, Olli Maata, Chicago's 2020 1st (unconditional), and Ian Mitchell for Ryan Donato and Jonas Brodin.

This might make a little sense IF the Blackhawks want to try to make one last run at the Cup with Kane, Toews, and Keith, et al. Brodin is an upgrade over Maata and Donato is forward/scoring depth for their top 9. Chicago rids themselves of Seabrook's crappy contract and having to protect him in the expansion draft. They lose a potential very high pick, plus a promising offensive RHD in Mitchell. The Blackhawks have Bovquist and Beaudin as future offensive d-men so losing Mitchell is something they can absorb. The Wild add Seabrook who can play 12 minutes a night behind Dumba and Spurgeon plus a (hopefully) very high #1 and a promising prospect...and Maata.

The Wild then also have to go 8 skaters, 1 goalie in the expansion draft to protect Dumba since I'm pretty sure they'd be forced to protect Suter, Spurgeon, and Seabrook if they acquired him.

I considered this...and am OK with it. They are going to lose a good young player no matter what they do. With my scenario here, I am attempting to offset the loss of one 23ish year old by acquiring two 18-20 year olds.

I have racked my brain on this one but I can’t see any trade that would make sense for both teams to send him to the leafs... and I have gone over every option and combination.

It's definitely challenging. Thanks for putting some time into it!

I think if a player waives a NTC or NMC to be traded, it's up to the new team on whether or not they will choose to continue honoring the previous NTC/NMC. I could be wrong on that, but I feel like I heard that somewhere.

Edit: this isn't where I initially saw it, but after a quick Google search here's a reddit post about it. According to a commenter who posted an excerpt from the CBA, looks like it's up to the new team if they want to honor it or not. I wonder if a player can choose to waive it but says they will only do so if the new team continues to honor the previous NTC/NMC...

I saw that too after I posted this.

I want to see your Seabrook trade. Even if it's just for fun.

That's a tough one. I'll give it a go:

Chicago Blackhawks
Zucker
Pateryn

Minnesota Wild
Seabrook
2020 1st (no protection)
Nylander

Spitballing, but something like that

I could definitely live with that. I would probably consider the deal even without Nylander.
