TDL Moves

Created by: bbell080
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 7, 2019
Published: Nov. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Sens will probably sell whatever isn't nailed down at the deadline. Here are some explanations:

Ryan to EDM: Sens retain 50% and the Oilers can try to reclaim his career. Minimally, McDavid should be able to bank some goals in off of Ryan, and a 3rd round pick is a small price to pay, and it comes with a Gagner contract dump.

Pageau to ARI: Sens get a 1st and Hossa's salary for cap purposes, and Arizona gets JG for the playoffs. Considering the Sens got a 1st (which became JBD and Tychonick) and Gustavsson for Brassard, a 1st seems like what Pageau will minimally be worth at th deadline.

Tierney to NYI: Maybe happens before TDL, but Ho-Sang and a 3rd go to Ottawa, and Tierney bolsters the Top 9 for the red hot Islanders.

Hainsey to COL: I think Hainsey provides some depth and leadership for a younger Colorado team, and for a 3rd, the price isn't too bad for the Avs.

Ennis to CAR: Ennis is getting powerplay time with Ottawa, and is playing decently for them. He is a classic player to get moved for something like a 3rd who then does almost nothing in the playoffs.

I think you have very good trades here. Like value wise they are all fair, except its probably a little on the high priced side for Hainsey and Ennis but other than that is it good. Great job I like it!

My Opinions:

Trade 1; I believe that if Ottawa retains 50% of Ryan's deal they should get an additional pick for next year say conditional 2nd if Ryan scores 20 goals, which very well could happen if he's playing alongside McDavid or Draisaitl.

Trade 2; I don't think Pageau would get you a first unless a team is really desperate for a solid top 9 centre, which ARI would not be, they have a very deep centre group. If anything the Yotes would try and ship off Stepan and 1st to get Pageau since Stepan has fallen off a cliff and he could provide veteran leadership for the Sens.

Trade 3; For the Isles I believe they'll be looking more for a top 6 scoring winger than a centre as they seem to be set with Barzal, Nelson and Brassard. Maybe Trade Namestnikov (even though he's been good for Ottawa).

Trade 4; Yeah right value for Hainsey and a decent fit, I'd say Nashville may show interest in him for more defensive depth and experience.

Trade 5; Meh I don't see Ennis getting you a 3rd unless you're taking back a cap dump. Like a trade with Buffalo like Ennis for Sobotka and a 3rd

I wonder what the Oilers thought would be if you did something like this but added Kris Russell to essentially even the money out completely? Might screw up their D-depth, but would solve some potential cap issues. IMO Ryan w/ retention for Gagne, Russell and a 2nd might work? Could potentially add a conditional pick on there as well.

I disagree that a conditional 2nd is a reasonable ask. There is already a similar deal via the Lucic trade, why would Holland (who is the definition of a draft and develop GM) do another one and why would Ottawa put that on the table if they want to get rid of the guy?
