As a Hawks fan...I'd do this, but only as a Zuccarello type TDL trade...TONS of conditions. CAR should want this too. Earn the level of pick you get. If CAR wins...CHI wins.

Doesn't matter the team, Lehner is worth a 1st and a A prospect for a team that needs top goaltending. Lehner is arguably the best goalie this year and as we all know, goaltending is the difference between earning a cup and not...just ask the Blues or any year the Hawks won.

While true and as someone who has defended Lehner for 4 seasons now, without a sign and trade, Chicago is not getting an A prospect. If theyre selling him, every GM waits till the price comes down at the TDL or wait till he goes UFA and Chicago gets nothing for him. Sign and trades bring up a whole new world of questions though so its not as easy as saying "well theyll make it a sign and trade, it doesnt matter". I like the idea, but GMs in the NHL do not throw high picks and A prospects around like that

Actually, GM's do throw high picks around at the TDL for rental pieces, historically 1st round picks (they are late 1st round picks as these are playoff teams) have been thrown around for much less then a #1 goaltender in the league which is rarely available. See Ryan Hartman TDL move by the Hawks to Preds for a 1st and Edjsell (B prospect at the time)

I disagree. We are talking about lehner who is much more valuable then Hartman. Look at what Evander Kane pulled in; a 1st, 4th and a B prospect. I'd argue Lehner is more valuable then Kane.
