Over the last two seasons Panik is tied for 174th in points among forwards, with Nick Foligno, Franz Nielsen, Cody Eakin, Jesper Bratt, and Artem Anisimov. There are 186 top six guys, and he's just barely in there. You're right that he'd be a 2nd liner with the Oilers: "Based off last year numbers Panik would have been in their top 5 forwards in scoring." Probably some other teams, too.
He's also averaged 140 hits, over the last three years, and has been a third-unit penalty killer on the team with the best PK.
Panik for a 3rd would be a steal. I think the OIlers probably add a forward prospect or make it a 2nd. He's 28 and off to a weak start, but he's got 2nd line offense and 3rd line defense, at a 3rd line price tag.
