Carolina decline what you dont understand Leafs fans Pesce isnt on the market, if you REALLY want him, you'll need to overpay big time

How do you know that he is not on the market if the price is right. Carolina is not going to be able to protect all their defenceman when the expansion draft occurs so I do believe Pesce could actually be more in play than you think. I also thought that Nylander straight up for Pesce was a fair deal but interested in what others think of the fairness of this trade. Nylander has more upside than you think and is a natural centre iceman and would be shifted to centre by the Canes.

The expansion draft is nearly two years away still.

This site and HF boards have been over this 300+ times, Pesce carries a lot more value then Nylander. Pesce is roughly a 6.5-7.3M player currently on a 4M contract for 5 more years, where Nylander is a roughly 6M player with the potential to be a 7M player, making 7M for the next 5 years. See where I'm getting at? Now we can go into the value of wingers vs defense (especially RD) and that tips the scale even more. Cane's have zero interest in moving any of their top 4 RD and when the expansion happens they will likely protect Slavin, Gardiner and Pesce then resign Hamilton as a FA.

Oh and don't get me started on that Flames trade, Calgary obviously declines

The problem is that Leafs fans think they are already overpaying big time w/ Nylander. But they're not, lol. He's on pace for a 53 point season while playing on a line w/ a top 5 goal scorer in the league. And he carries a cap hit of $7M!!! Ouch!

Nylander currently projects for 19G and 53 points. Do you think he'd be a 65-70 point player as the Canes #2C? I would say he'd score less 5on5 but maybe more on the PP. Probably maxing out at 55 points. Maybe I'd consider the trade for Pesce if Nylander's cap hit was a more reasonable number, say $5M AAV. But even then TOR would probably need to add a pick/prospect.

All of that Pesce stuff being available went out the window when Justin Faulk was moved. Carolina would have very little interest in trading Pesce at this point IMO.

Nylander is definitely an upgrade for Carolina at forward, but this is exactly the problem. The hole Pesce being traded would leave in Carolina's top 4 is more of a step back than Nylander upgrading their top 6 is a step forward. Idiotic trade for Carolina.

Anybody else remember two summers ago when @NickC1988 first proposed a Nylander-for-Pesce trade even up and we all derided him mercilessly about how unfair the exchange was?

We're all desperately wishing we could have that deal now.
