So it's basically Puli for Svechnikov and Helm, and we get stuck with Gagner for the rest of the year. Detroit says no to this trade. I guess we could take the salary dump if it involved a trade with Puli, but it would probably be for like one of those guys, not both. We have the upper hand in any scenario involving Puli. Trust me, when the trade does come, you guys are gonna be left wishing you had gotten more, but it's just an unfortunate circumstance for you guys. You are way overvaluing him in my mind.

I always see Red Wings fans hating on Helm so figure he's worth a third or fourth. Puljujarvi is probably equal to Svech can debate who's better. Gagner is just a throw in to balance cap then his contract expires freeing space. Can do the trade at the tdl when teams see more where they are, but my thought is Red Wings will be selling hoping for a high pick and Oilers looking for some pickups to try and get a wildcard spot.

You are making it seem like Helm is a great catch.. which he isn't even with his hot start to the season he is still a 3.85M bottom 6 player. Svechinkov and JP both need fresh starts so maybe close to even. Oilers get slightly more useful player in Helm vs Gagner this year but then have to deal with the 3.85M caphit next year for bottom 6 player instead of being able to upgrade top 6 and lose a 4th round pick. Trade is a loss for the Oilers

I think Svech for Puli might be an overpayment, so why is Helm in that trade as well? You could argue Svech has the higher upside, as he missed an entire year due to a leg injury and hasn't really gotten his shot yet at the NHL full time. But Puli, however, has gotten every chance to succeed at the NHL level, and just hasn't. Both players would be served better with a fresh start. I think a 3rd for Puli is probably pretty fair. So if we say, Svech for Puli, an overpayment, but let's say there is other teams wanting Puli so we overpay to get him. Why is Helm in there too? We can get a 3rd or 4th for Helm just on his own, and we don't have to take the contract dump of Gagner.

Helm is a 25 point player when healthy who can play up and down the lineup with his speed. He is better served as a bottom six player, yea, but he's not a Gagner, who is a healthy scratch more often that not. The trade mentioned is a major loss for Detroit, even if we lose Gagner's contract at the end of this season instead of Helm's at the end of next. We have a ton of cap space and are not competitive, and won't be for a few years. Helm's contract does not matter to us.

I'd say JP is worth at least a second, I think he's at least equal to Svech. Svech I don't think theirs going to be much opportuity for him in DET as he ahsn't produced when given an opportunity. JP never really had a fair shot. He was rushed to the NHL when he shouldn't have even played a game in the chel for at least two years. Then he was subjected to playing with "goal per million" Lucic. Not many people can succeed in that role. See Lucic linemates this year

Yea I don't know bro. I mean JP is .26ppg over 139 games. Whatever universe you're from, that is not a 2nd round pick. Yea you can say that he was rushed into the NHL and had terrible linemates, which is all 100% true, but the stats don't lie, and Holland isn't going to gain any traction by saying "Oh well you know, he had Lucic on his line", you see what I'm saying? I right now can't see anyone dealing a 2nd for him, but that's just me. Is he worth a second? His stats don't say so, but he definitely has the potential too. But I just don't know how far that will get you. I know as a Detroit fan I wouldn't give a second, but our second will be like 32nd overall probably. Maybe a contender would, but a contender is not a team JP should be playing on if he wants to resurrect his career. And a contender is not the team that is going to be trading high round picks on maybes. They will be trading them for proven guys that will help them win immediately. He needs ice time and a no pressure environment to succeed. As a Detroit fan, its a hard no if the cost is a 2nd. and that's probably similar for most other bottom feeder teams. And svech has never been given an opportunity in the nhl, so thats not really fair to say. The guy has played 20 games, and he has 2 goals and 2 assists in the 14 games he was up before he broke his leg the following preseason and missed the whole next year. He played 4 games this year and didn't register any points, but its 4 games.
