Trades
1.
LAK
  1. Asplund, Rasmus
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (BUF)
BUF
  1. Carter, Jeff ($2,600,000 retained)
  2. 2020 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
We can debate if Carter is still a top 6 forward, BUT, a vet with a couple Cups who can still pot 40+ points is a player the Sabres should be intrigued by if they are making the next step - especially with a bulk of the bottom 6 being FA's. Salary retention makes this work in Buffalo.

Kings get a player projected to be a 3rd line horse..... a poor man's Brown if you will. Swap of picks to balance some things out.
2.
LAK
  1. Benning, Matthew [RFA Rights]
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
I know Kings fans live Brown.... cuz there is a lot to love. But a full scale rebuild means moving on. Brown is still productive, so I suggest cashing in. Poolboy is a gamble. But I do like Manning on the RD.

Most might argue this is an over pay by the Oilers, but I say that depends on what you make of Poolboy.... I suggest that if you are going to effectively have a real culture change, you need a guy like Brown around. Would be a solid compliment to the 2nd line. Think of the Marleau impact in Toronto..... not much different for far less money.
EDM
  1. Brown, Dustin ($2,500,000 retained)
3.
LAK
  1. Ho-Sang, Joshua [RFA Rights]
  2. Leddy, Nick
Additional Details:
Islanders: safe to say Ho-Sang will never play for them. That's the easy part to explain. Why Leddy? Simply put, when you look at the depth and quality of the Islander blueline, it maybe hard to see where he may fit in long term, or at least getting the ice time.to justify the contract (he is worth it yes). The move essentially moves two years at $5.5 million, where the Isles can now out that money into Teows, Pulloch etc. Martinez is still a very capable defender who can fill that roster spot on an expiring and cheaper contract. Amadio comes in to fill the 4th line roll.

For the Kings, Ho-Sang is a gamble. But this deal is more about the contract certainty of Leddy, and a clear offensive upgrade on Martinez. Could go UFA here, but given where the Kings are at, and the money involved to do it, (wouldn't go long term except Krug, and that's a lot of cash to.pull it off) found it didn't make sense at this time. Alamdio is a rather interchangable part, and easily replaced via FA if needed.

Neither Edmonton or Islander trade has any benefit to the Kings. They could have picked up Ho Sang for free off of waivers. The Edmonton trade is just awful

I don't mind the Buffalo trade. I think the Sabres would have to include a better prospect if the Kings were expected to retain that much salary for 3+ seasons though.

The rest of the trades don't make sense for LA. If the Kings are trading away veterans, they're going to want draft picks and young promising prospects, not failed prospects or aging guys that will be over the hill or UFAs by the time LA is ready to compete again.

The Kings won't trade the guy who captained the team to their first two cups in franchise history to a division rival for scraps. I can maybe see him moving to Buffalo or the Islanders to end his career close to home, but like the others, there's going to be draft picks and quality prospects coming back, not a bust and a fringe NHL defenseman.

Not sure I call Poolboy a bust quite yet. Change of scenery has done wonders for him (we can debate the big ice)......

Benning I would not evaluate as a fringe NHLer. Edmonton suddenly has depth at RD, and he simply flushes out for my money. Not a top 2 guy no, but as a top 4? I think the game is there.

Gotta remember..... Brown is 35 in a young man's game. Love the guy. I do, but it's time to move on and open up roster spots to younger players.

Just don't see a 35 year old landing quality draft picks. Not in today's NHL.

Brown retires a King. He’s done so much for this organization and captained two Stanley cup teams. I can’t say he’ll play when the contract is up in 2 years but I don’t see why Blake wouldn’t honor Brown to let him stay until his contract is up. Plus he’s been productive the last few years I being 35 in a ‘young’ mans game. I’d understand Carter or even Kovalchuk to be traded over Brown

I respect that position. But we have also seen how loyalty can lead to something grossly long and painful. (Iginla and Calgary; the Wings in general, to mention some more recent examples)

Moving Brown would be a huge and difficult decision for sure. However, I also see it as necessary to move on to the next chapter. Because at some point, the chapter does have to end.

Brown would be one of a line of Kings greats who were moved to rebuild...... Gretzky, Robataille, Blake himself.

I am suggesting moving him while there is still some value in a deal.

All your points are valid and I could understand it if they did it but I’m betting they don’t move him regardless of if it’s a better investment to move on now
