Great game. While the Leafs not having Marner and the Hawks not having their #2 D guy, it was still a competitive matchup. All in all the defense of both these teams are not good, but the Hawks flat out owned the Leafs in the first, played better defense for 2 periods, and had an amazing goalie in net, which led to the win.

That said, these offensive matchups as fun as they are to watch doesn't work in the playoffs...not that the Hawks are in any position to be talking about the playoffs.

A. Nylander did not look good tonight, average. Not sure if playing his brother got him off his game. Why is Smith playing over Carpenter...not a good move JC. Also, against fast teams Koekko or Gilbert should be in for Maatta or Seabs. Both Maatta and Seabs lack of speed was exposed multiple times this game. Gus on the other hand excels against speed opponents and looked solid.

Carpenter had a death in his family so that's why he was out.

Entertaining for sure, but bad defending on both sides.

Honestly I think the problem with A Nylander recently are his line mates. I don’t think Saad and Toews have good chemsity with Alex. They don’t play the skill type of game Nylander is best suited for. Would like to see him on the third line for a game, or take a couple shifts with Kaner.

I agree. Nylander and Kane with Dach would be a solid option IMO.

In the first the Leafs had breakdowns yeah the rest of the game though it was a 1 sided tilt with Lehner winning the day. He played great! Could have been 10-5 if not for him.

I somewhat agree, except I think the second period was more or less even.

For the third we left Lehner out against a firing squad.

Yeah, I really thought the Leafs were going to tie it there. I will admit, watching the Leafs this year has been very frustrating, more so than last year. Last year, defensively, there were a lot of guys that would hang the goalies out to dry. This year, its the same guys over and over. Ceci is actaully not a terrible player but he can't be taking on top opposition. He just can't handle it and its putting too much pressure on Rielly to cover for him. Hutchinson, isn't terrible but if Andersen was in net last night, it would have been a 4-2 win for TO I'd wager.

I hate to be the guy hanging a L on just a few guys but the PK is getting torched and Ceci is always on the ice when they get scored on. Its getting hard to watch. Also Babs just plain sucks as a coach. His adjustments don't really make sense and I get the feeling that certain players on the team have started to just say, Whatever Babs, I am going to go out there and just play. Matthews line specifically seems to just not care about anything other than being dominant. 10 shots on goal! Nuts. Kane does look good out there, by far the best Hawk on the ice....as much as I hate to say it. lol.

It was an exciting game though. Fun to watch.

Apart from about 10 minutes of first and maybe a few minutes in the 2nd, TO was all over Chicago, the difference in speed is drastic.

I don't want to "Like" that, but yeah. You're right. I'll be honest that I didn't get to see the 1st period. Saw the highlights, but that's not the same. The speed was definitely in TORs favor.

If Lehner plays like that on a game to game basis, you could possibly sneak into the playoffs. The 3 difference makers in the game were 1) Lehner 2) The Leafs PK isn't good and 3) Lehner.

I'm in the minority of Hawks fans here, but Stan still NEEDS to at least see what these UFA's are worth on the open market come February. I'm a spoiled Hawks fan...I know, but just making it to the playoffs isn't enough for me. Crow, Lehner, Gus...what could they get at the TDL. I'm very curious.

Lehner will get you a lot, but the rest not much. Gus didn't look good last night but really after the 1st the whole Hawks team was hanging on for dear life. Lehner will get a nice return if you were to move him.

The 1st period was the biggest 1 sided tilt I've seen in a long time. It looked like the Hawks were playing an AHL team. Most of the 2nd was even and the 3rd was definitely in the Leafs favor but the 1st was drastically one sided more then any other point of the game.
