Is Simek the Sharks version of Sundqvist/Gunnarsson? (lovable player who doesn’t seem skilled, but excels analytically so people joke about him actually being good)

Maybe, I think it’s more that he completes the pairings, he makes the perfect partner for Burns, he’s very physical and doesn’t make mistakes too often. He’s already chipped in a goal, some good passes and a heap of blocks and hits. He came in last year when the team was struggling too and after he arrived they went like 29-7, which also had to do with Karlsson turning it up. We love Simek in SJ. ( he also looks like a crazed murderer)

No Simek is pretty good. The perfect 4d for the sharks really.

That’s sort of what I meant. Every team has that “actually good” depth player who seems like he would suck but actually rocks and the fans love him.

Yep. He’s not young at 27. Sharks scouts found him in the Czech league, one of many undrafted euro players found by SJ scouting that are making an impact now.

Signing Euro free agents as depth forwards seems like a very good strategy that I’m surprised teams don’t do

Well when you lack draft picks like SJ does it’s a necessity. We’ve found some good gems. Simek, Melker, Suomela, Donskoi, Korenar, Sorensen etc. (Sorensen and Donskoi were drafted but we’re toiling in Europe when SJ signed them). Not to mention serviceable guys like Bergmann and Yurtaikin who have debuted this season.

Haha we don’t go that far, but I always find time to mention the absolute hilariousness that was Oskar Sundqvist being the 6th best forward on a cup team after being a horrendous the previous year.

I’d much rather take my chances on guys like that instead of signing freaking Brouwer and McGinn to PTO’sVery Angry

I like Sundqvist. He and Simek could make an entertaining fight though Simek doesn’t drop’ em much as he is too busy babysitting for Burns.

Sunny lol. Such a hockey nickname but it’s also befitting. When Simek returned this year Vlasic said “here comes our savior, Jesus Simek”
