You know that you can't resign someone you don't have, they can sign him as an FA and likely overpay but resigning infers he is already in possession which he is not.

Kinda of silly premise that the Leafs can resign Brodie as a basis of a trade. Leafs may not want to anyway.
But the trade might be suitable for both parties. Leafs just need one goalie....let's say Talbot, and Flames should keep Gillies.

Brodie is not what we need and dont need Jankowski at all so Leafs decline.

Ill clarify, flames cant sign an offensive defenseman like Barrie for the price he is going to ask for because they have more important holes to fill next year with their cap space, 3 RD spots (Andersson is the only RFA and will likely get paid similar to Cernak) and a top 6 upgrade as well as some depth resigns.
