I think Hall makes 12 next summer. If he can make NJ somewhat relevant he should be making almost McDavid money. I mean, if Tanev is worth 3.5...

Still too much to move JJ, it shouldn't cost much more than a second if at all next offseason

If he keeps playing the way he has been all year it won't be hard to move him at all. Could probably move him without giving anything else up. Similar to the gudbranson trade.

I mean he could get offered that. but what competitive teams have that kind of cap space? he may take a little less to play for a contender. also consistency and injuries hurt his value

hes played better this season thats forsure. but that contract is still a stinker. hes got 3 years left. you're gonna have to give up a decent prospect to move him

But how else are you going to give Pettersson $3.9Mx5? (Instantly making Pettersson the worst contract on the team, including the $3.5M Tanev)

lmaoooo because hes a good defensemen who took a major paycut. okay if you find 3.9 steep thats fine, but he'll certainly make over 3 million

if buried, he makes just over 2 mil... that's a total of 6 mil, but it's split over 3 years, making it MUCH MUCH easier to manage, plus with the projected massive cap rise in two years, he makes almost nothing in terms of cap hit%...

I said from go this summer that he needed to just accept his QO and actually prove that he was decent, and not what he was in Anaheim. He ended up signing for his QO amount. It wasn't a pay cut, it is what he should have done two months prior.

I would say Pittsburgh has a better shot. I think Avs are the most logical though

Over 2 million a year is still a waste of cap space. Sure it doesn’t seem a lot but When attempting to sign a free agent (like hall) it is a huge factor. Zero chance hall accepts 9 million, but 11 million could get it done

I really hope I’m wrong, believe me. And I don’t see Johnson in a pens jersey next year. I hope Rutherford can pull some witchcraft and move him for as little as possible. But I personally think it’ll cost a 2nd round pick + a solid prospect

Well he’s arguably our 3rd best D. I see him signing in the 3-4 million range

That's why they wouldn't do it July first, a second and Legare is more than TOR gave up to move Marleau, and JJ's contract isn't nearly as bad lol

I mean no I’d still rather have a first than a 2nd and legare. He was a good pick but I’m not 100% sold he’s fast enough to play in this league. He’s not having a “great” start to the season this year. And that’s also debatable. Marleau had a higher cap hit sure, but it was 1 year vs 3. Id say Johnson’s was worse.

If teams would rather have a 1 yr penalty than two+, why do we see so many buyouts each year lol, the lower the cap it the player comes at the more manageable it is, plus teams will buyout players when they don't even get the full 1/2 salary cut for 2x the length lol, this is 3x the length, but a full 1/3 price reduction, AND the cap is going to go drastically up for the last 2 years of his deal, and most teams know that
