I would take Tkachuk everyday of the week on my team before Marner. Tkachuk is a guy I hate for my team to play against, but I would love on my team. He is such an a$$hole, but clutch as well. He can do it all and play in any situation, dirty game whatever!

Without contracts it's Marner every day and twice on Sunday.

You can talk grittiness all you want but the offensive difference is significant and Marner is actually quite a good two way winger and good on the PK.

With contracts in mind? It's harder to say. Maybe equal in value.

offensive difference is not that big at all. I know its a small sample size but tkachuk has more goals and points to start this year, and around the same ppg. it'll likely be more clear at the end of this season, but contracts or not, tkachuk makes more of a difference IMO, and I'm a leafs fan

Tkachuk almost certainly. Younger, plays a more gritty game, leads the league in penalties drawn almost every year, cheaper contract. Both are solid 2-way players so that's a wash. Chucky also plays on a significantly weaker line and is producing just as well as Marner.

Best trade I've seen in a while.

Marner has more value not considering salary, but I think this trade would benefit both teams. Leafs have many players who are similar in style, and Tkachuk would add a new dimension to the team. Calgary has enough grit already with Bennett, Lucic et al, and would benefit from Marner's upside.
