I get the sense, that at least at the moment, neither the player, or the club, is interested in an extension. I don't see the Leafs as being happy, or even content, with how Barrie has worked out so far. And I don't see the player happy with how he's been used in the line up (especially no top unit pp time), or how the media has treated him amidst the worst goal slump of his career. Obviously, there is time for things to change, but considering an extension will likely cost at least $8 million AAV a year, I just don't think the Leafs could afford it unless they deal Nylander.

I think the point is signing him when his value is low.

Wouldn’t Toronto be way better off re-signing muzzin instead?

If Myers got that in Vancouver on less of a track record... even in a down year, I don't think Barrie signs that deal... unless he loves it here... which at the moment... doesn't seem to be the case... I hope he rounds out... I hope they keep Muzzin... and I think they have to move Nylander up front and that money to open up some flexibility...

My thoughts as well. The above posted defense would get eaten up. Who actually defends?

Even still, the guy is 50-60 pt rhd man consistently until he arrived in toronto, paul bissonnette said before the start of the year hes not going to like playing in toronto with his style of play.. barrie wont resign and the leafs cant afford 8 mill per which is what they started at in the summer

The reason that was said is because of his defensive play. Seems like muzzin Rielly and gardiner has no problem putting up points. I’m sure his play will pick up at some point. I din’t see Anyone offering him 8m if he stays on this track.

Barries a strong finisher, erik karlsson put up two 60pt seasons before he got 11.5 mill, so I bet there's a team out there that will

Karlsson was putting up 70 and 80 point seasons and then started to decline before now being a horrible contract. Teams may be cautious about that. Personally I hope Barrie does earn a huge contract. Suits my needs perfectly.

He pit up 80 and 70, then 60 and 60 and then got his new deal.worth 11.5

GMs will still offer him 7.5-8

They would be silly to after a 20 point season with zero goals and doing nothing defensively.
