I think Kovalchuk even at 36 will provide similar production to Galchenyuk and at 50% retained, it saves us having to dish out 6+ for an underperforming Galchenyuk.

penguins decline.
You can keep that contract in LA.
The penguins can deal with Chucky's deal expiring this year. Not only does it make him easy to trade, but clears cap space later for better options.
This is just a cap dump they want something in return for. No thanks.

He'll probably produce a lot more if he is played in the top 6. Kovi got 34 points last season while being played on the 3rd and 4th line ON THE KINGS.. Playing with Crosby or Malkin omg..
Only issue is how will he work out with Sullivan?

Kovalchuk is a healthy scratch for a reason. At $3.25M the only thing that I would trade for him MIGHT be Jack Johnson, and that would be to cut the term as Jack Johnson is actually the better hockey player right now.

He finished 4th in team scoring last year. The Kings are absolutely awful and had no business going after Kovalchuk.
He would do a lot better with a better supporting cast.
You realize that entire team is carried by Kopitar this year right?

Nobody is angry.. Kings would likely retain half his contract in a trade.

No one is giving you that kind of a return for kovalchuk bud thats like the pens offering the whole JJ contract and expecting to get a B level prospect, a top 9 winger, and a 2nd round. Sameish aav and in this case Jack Johnson is the more proven BETTER player bruh
