No reason to trade Orlov and not use that space.

backstrom will cost more then that. He still a excellent centerman and will cost at least matt duchenes money. If he sign for 6 years the avv will be around 9 millions st least.

Yeah I was thinking about that but realistically what can that be used on? All that is need for the following off-season when Ovi and Vrana need extensions.

Duchene was 28 when he signed his deal, Backstrom is turning 32 in the next couple weeks. Only way Backstrom gets $9M is if it's a 1-2 year deal. The more years you add the cheaper the amoung will be. Imagine they settle on a 3-4 year deal around $8.5M. 6 year is probably $7M-$7.5M.

Not saying you HAVE to use the money, but if you aren't just keep Orlov, who's really freakn good and can be traded the season after. Unless if that 1st is like top 15.

Even if he is 32 he can hit the market so team will pay him big money if capitals are to cheap. Last contract was already a bargain one he will likely to get paid this time.

Hotlby is a maybe to CGY, Rittich has been pretty dolid this year, Talbot too (surprisingly). The issue has been more oflur production and ability to get penalized for everything

Doubtful Backstrom hits open market just to make more money. Obvious he wants to retire a Cap so unless the Capitals really really bone him (aka offering $5M-$6M), don't think he's going to test the market.

I hope that is agent isn’t to hungry. Loyalty isn’t the the things that come up when money is in place. I mean the shark or the Blackhawks have paid their players to keep them. Vlassic have sign for 8 years 7 millions at 31 so I don’t see why backstrom could take less then that. You are optimistic that a good thing but if the cap want to keep him they will need to pay big buck.

Agree. Orlov for a top-15 pick? Tempting.

Fehervary and Siegenthaler moving up the depth chart? Workable on the ice but unnecessary, and could hurt their development.

Orlov for a 30th overall pick? Pass.

Siegenthaler staying at 3LHD and PK1? Fine. Fehervary graduating to AHL top pair to work on his offense and endurance, with occasional call-ups so he remembers what the NHL is like? Better for his development than playing 3LHD in the NHL all year.

Gudas skipping free agency to get some term? Sounds gud.

7x8=56M? That seems fair for Backstrom. Wonder if he'd consider a frontloaded eight year 56M deal with a 7M cap hit, so the team can still pay him what he's worth, but minimize the cap hit?

Kuznetsov on the 2nd line has three more points so far this year. Both are #1C's, and both lines are producing, but the team doesn't need to pay Backstrom more than Kuznetsov. It's becoming clear that they need to save some cap space to extend Vrana at a similar number next summer, while hopefully also keeping Ovechkin around for as long as he wants.

Really? For a 5th you're not sure you want a Vezina winner? I hope he's reading this and takes whatever Washington's offering him!

Im not saying no to Holtby or anything, I think hes a fantastic goalie. I just find it more likely Treliving sees what we have in Rittich first. IMO Rittich has been the best player on the team this forst half and has bailed us out of more games than not

I mean, Rittich is a year younger than Holtby and only has one less Vezina trophy, so... smile
