What to do

Created by: gregb569
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2019
Published: Nov. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1 - Call up Johnson for potential injuries
2 - Dump JJ contract (Guds contract dump cost us nothing... JJ has 2 more years than Guds and $775k less per yr... the rhetoric that JJ cap dump will cost a first is outrageous.
3 - With JJ gone, extend our young guys to long term deals. I would go as follows
Murray - prove it contract similar to Binnington - 5M for 2 years
MP - Similar to Ekholm contract - 4-4.5M for 5-6+ years.
McCann - Similar to Kerfoot deal - 3-3.5M for 3-4 years.
Kahun - similar to ZAR contract - 1.5-2M for 1-2 years.
Lafferty/Rikola most likely will be <1M deals so I won't go there.

With our estimation of 34M cap space next year (after dumping JJ), taking into consideration our RFA contracts (I have on the high end 17M, so let's be safe and say 20 for arguments sake, leaves us with 11M(if we keep JJ or 14M if we trade him to sign Schultz+Gally or find replacements for them.

  2. 2021 7th round pick (ANA)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
OTT has the most cap space in the league heading into next year (40M) eating 3.25M of that in JJ will not hinder any portion of their rebuild.

Im sorry I get all your points except the Muzz contract?? What does my guy still have to prove? 2 cups as a rookie, played phenomenal second half of last season after recovering from injury, has been lights out this season. His only bad season was the 2017-18 where he had to deal with his fathers passing, multiple injuries/concussions. Just a super bad and unlucky year all around. My guy has easily deserved a 7millx6y contract or something along those lines.

I love Murray and think he's our starter and goalie of the future... However, I'm worried obviously with his injury history and to me, inconsistent play. I'd much rather give him a prove it deal like Binningtons (albeit he doesn't have much to prove) than a massive 8+M contract like I've seen some people give him. Your 7Mx6year is better though and I wouldn't be opposed to that!

i dont think his agent will be happy if GMJR talked about a prove it contract. I also dont think he will realistically be looking for an 8+ million contract. I think he will start at maybe 8.5-9 and they will work down to a 7.5mill ish contract. if its a short term contract like the prove it hes gonna ask for more money which would hurt the pens more than help them i think

We have like 26 mil after dumping JJ, Crosby won't be on LTIR next year (Hornqvist might be, but that's not my point lol) an I agree with your analysis other than MP is not comparable to Ekholm skill wise, but that is about the type of contract I see him getting, and I doubt either side will want a bridge deal for Murray

After clicking onto your first 2 armchair GM's I'd have to say your opinion is 100% irrelevant.

You should click on the 3rd. It only gets better from there
