I don't think its far off, and I don't think we need hall anyways to be cup contenders. Theres other players that will cost much less.

As a rental this is fair. But as we've all seen on here, NJ prob asks for at least for an extra 1st if he re-signs. But all in all its a reasonable offer. In the division makes it harder though.

What the f*** is the price for Hall then? That's a lofty goddamn price, and I'd argue it's more than Ottawa got for Stone.

I don't think hall would re-sign with the islanders and honestly I have no interest in spending 11 + mill for a soon to be 30 year old winger

Hall has 2 goals rn. And averages 50 points a season. I think capfriendly fams are going to be disappointed with his actual return

yeah, I guess. I just wouldn't give up wahlstrom, Dobson, or Sorokin like many on this site are proposing. I wouldn't trade any of those players 1 for 1, even if hall came with an extension.

Not the point. That trade's the precedent now, and no matter how good Brannstrom can/will be, you can't take a player lesser in value than Mark Stone and give up more for him.

In hindsight, I don't know what else Ottawa could have really asked for over what they got for Stone. The optics of not getting a 1st Round Pick back are awful sure - especially considering there was an utter lack of assets in exchange for Stone extending in Vegas - but in terms of raw value I think they did well. Getting a better pick probably meant not getting Brannstrom, so you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

This would be the best offer they got by a wide margin, in my opinion.

it's cool how hall has a hart and stone doesn't and he's somehow the lesser player.

Stone was second in WAR behind McDavid last season. He’s a PPG player and he’s one of (if not the best) defensive winger in the game. I’d take stone over hall any day.

If you think the PHWA has an ounce of an idea as to what they're doing - and not to discredit Hall for his Hart season - then you're grossly mistaken as to what a Hart-caliber player actually is.

Any hockey fan that's graduated from spreading Eklund rumours would take Stone over Hall any day of the week, almost without hesitation. Factor in that Hall will ask for Panarin-esque money this summer: the gap between how much value each player brings their club only widens.

hardware is valued more than spreadsheet numbers, especially when you're dealing with guys like shero and lou.

you really think a hardass like ray shero is going to give his top winger to a rival team for a lackluster prospect winger, a defensive prospect and a low first?

Given that Hall is likely to be exchanged for an A-prospect and a 1st Round Pick out of division, I quite like the return of a 1st round Pick, an A-prospect, and a high-ceiling B-prospect within division.

Ignore the inside vs outside the division horsesh*t for a minute. What benefits the Devils more? A bigger return or a lesser return? Get back to me when you rub the right combination of brain cells together to figure out that dilemma.

Mark stone brings more value to a team than Taylor hall and there really is no arguing that.

my original point was that the return for stone was underwhelming given the caliber of the player, and i don't think the devils would be smart in asking for a comparable return. regarding the trade i think the islanders would need to switch out bellows for someone with a higher ceiling.

Stone got the return contingent on him signing a long term deal. Taylor hall does not plan to sign with any team until July 1st, that decreases the value he got in a trade. There really isn’t that big of a difference between bode Wilde and brannstrom. Brannstrom is the better prospect, but not by much. Stone didn’t even get a return of a 1st rd pick.
