Rebuild 2020

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2019-20 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 15, 2019
Published: Nov. 15, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Forbort and Toffoli trades would have to be made as soon as possible inasmuch as both of them are UFA's at the end of the season; the Martinez trade would occur at the draft in Montreal in June. I show Senyshyn on the IR because I assume he would go straight to Ontario.

If Blake could make these three trades (or three like them) by June 30, I would be thrilled.

Would you be fin for Martinez to the leafs for a 2nd and 3rd, you dont give up the 4th and maybe the leafs toss in a B level prospect? thoughts?

Do you figure the Kings benefit in any way from moving Clifford and/or Lewis for mid- to late-round picks as depth on another team's run at a cup? Is there talks of extensions in Los Angeles or do you reckon there just isn't enough value to warrant trading them entirely?

Also, what's the story with Campbell? I'd argue he's a bigger asset than Toffoli right now. Do you keep him in this scenario strictly for the ability to keep Petersen in the AHL at the risk of him walking for nothing or are you hoping that he gets extended and the Kings instead find a way to dump Quick?

Why would you trade Alec Marteniz to a Non-Playoff team? Makes absolutely no sense here.

I would trade Martinez to the Leafs for the 2020 second and Trevor Moore. (Inside joke for my Toronto colleagues.) I think the Leafs could/would only spare the 2020 second and 2021 third and we don't need another B prospect, so I don't think that one flies. Maybe the second and Bracco, I dunno.

Clifford and Lewis are the sort of character guys all Stanley Cup winning teams need on their roster. I don't know how eager Blake is to trade either, mostly for sentimental reasons. Their productivity has fallen due to lack of playing time, so I see them of value to a team like Edmonton which would play them on the third line and give them a fair shake, but I don't see Blake trading intra-division. Boston in particular might like Clifford. Carolina might like the right-handed Lewis, and Pittsburgh could be interested in either. Rather than late-round picks, if that's all they're worth, I see Blake using one of our extra fourths to move up somewhere, as I have done here.

I would be shocked if Blake didn't make a serious effort to re-up Campbell. And Campbell might stay, inasmuch as the Kings have more or less given him the chance to resuscitate his career. Just between you and me, I think that Blake is looking to move Quick.

I disagree. I chose Ottawa for a reason -- I think they would like a mature defensemen to help their young blueliners develop. In fact, I think he's likely to end up in eastern Canada next year. Ottawa has the "extra" draft picks that appeal to a rebuilding team.
